  1. I meant to say the interview for Penn State (I don't know if anyone has been contacted for Rutgers yet). I hear my PA may be a little anti-social, so maybe he doesn't make it out for interview weekends. >_<
  2. That's why I tried to play the early modern Britain route instead of early modern England specifically. We'll see how it goes. I thought about applying to Queen's University Belfast, but I didn't really want to move across the ocean. Have any of you guys worked with any paleography yet? That stuff is absolutely ROUGH. Especially since most of you are focusing in non-English speaking areas, I was wondering how you manage to decode painful paleographic sources...It's painful enough in English, but in other languages I couldn't imagine...
  3. We def do need to stick together! We seem to be outnumbered on the boards...maybe that's a good thing? fewer applicants for the spots we're after? (it'd be nice if it were true...lol)
  4. I looked over some of the most recent topic lists and I haven't seen many early modern/medieval applicants. SO...I was wondering, if you applied to work in the early modern era, answer these questions (if you want to of course:) What area of the world are you specializing in? Where did you apply? What is your focus within your intended graduate field? I'm applying for programs in early modern Britain focusing on women and religion. I have applied to UT Austin, Rutgers, UPenn, Penn State, Vanderbilt, WashU, and USC.
  5. I have been religiously checking my application statuses (to the point where it may be affecting my mental health, lol). I applied to Penn State, and today (after a month or so) I saw this new posting. "As of February 16, 2010, please contact the graduate program to which you are applying to determine the status of your application." I didn't have a chance to call or e-mail before I got the message, and I wanted to see what you gradcafe experts thought it might mean. I haven't been contacted for an interview or a recruitment day (like some of the other applicants I saw on this site). Could it mean that they are still reviewing my application (but it makes me wonder why they would change the app status of this today) OR could it be a nice way of telling me I was rejected or waitlisted. But if I was rejected, wouldn't they just come out and say it on the application status instead of asking me to contact the department? Sorry to ask. I'm to the desperation point, and will read into anything that might be a "sign."
  6. Dr. Cressy and Dr. Parker...here's what it said in my notification (via a professor I know). I hate to be the bearer of bad news, but I just heard back form David Cressy yesterday. He said that, because of severe budget cuts by the state gov't at Columbus to all Ohio state universities, the history dept. at OSU is accepting almost no new grad students into its program for the fall 2010 term. He added that this enrollment freeze was partly due to the impending retiremrent of several senior faculty members in history, inlcuding himself and Geoffrey Parker in early modern Europe, which would make it difficult for students working with these professors to complete their degrees. Sooooo, I fear the Ph.D. progam at OSU will not be your destination next fall.
  7. Best of luck!!!
  8. I'm still waiting on all of mine except OSU where the PA is apparently retiring soon (even after I was told he was accepting students). I'm waiting on WashU, Vanderbilt, Penn State, UPenn, Rutgers (I saw someone was already contacted for an interview there), USC, and UT Austin. Has anyone had any news yet from any of those schools? Isn't 3 months of waiting long enough? What torture!
  9. Hey there.... Not to be the bearer of bad news, but from an inside source I have heard that OSU has SIGNIFICANTLY cut back on their graduate program this year. I have already received notification of my rejection from an e-mail (my potential advisor who was previously accepting applicants, can no longer accept due to budgetary restrictions). They are only accepting a few students (I don't know how many) but yeah...just lettin you know.
