No one received my GRE scores that were sent weeks ago. What is this I don't even

Edit: Wait they probably did receive my scores but never linked them because I hadn't submitted my application... Right?

Probably.  That happened for me for a few schools.

Does anyone else have issues with the Harvard BBS portal checklist?

Yes!  For a while it wasn't showing that my app was submitted - now that is fixed but one of my letters of LoRs isn't showing a checkmark even though it is showing "Received (Official)"

For what it's worth (and for posterity/future applicants) if your university/registrar/whoever is capable of sending certified eTranscripts, I'm pretty sure Biosciences will accept that.

I sent an eTranscript a couple weeks ago and am still waiting for it to be processed.  It is still showing received (unofficial).

I did it at the same place I was an undergrad, so I just stayed ended up staying the same lab I was already in.

Also, I wouldn't worry about GPA that much. The school I went to had so much grade inflation that in almost every class 50% of students got As.

Oh wow.  I go to a small school, so it is so weird being on here and seeing how different grading is at different schools.  At my school, teachers don't even curve!

I think it's too late to get any other letters.  However, I will say that letters are one of the most important parts of the application and it would have really been better to have 3 research letters, although you know your situation best.  Trust the judgement you made because you can't change it.

Regarding letters of recommendation... Does anyone know how important the prestige of the writer is in comparison to the content?  I come from a small school, so my strongest LOR is from my PI here who I have worked with for a year and half and counting.  It should be a very strong letter, but he isn't well known.  I also have a letter from a very well known PI I worked with over the summer, but, since it was only for a few months, he doesn't know me as well.  Also, since I have only worked in 2 labs, my third LOR is from my academic advisor who I have also had as a professor for 2 courses and a lab.  She knows me very well and her letter should be strong, but I have never done research with her, although she did get to see my lab skills during the upper-division lab I took with her, where we had a lot of control and responsibility for our experiments. Additionally, she has selected me for faculty steering committees and to serve as a representative of the school at recruitment events. I am hoping this will be worth more than a DWIC?  Thanks for all your help.  Starting to seriously freak out and still have a month + to go...

  5. Hi.  I have heard mixed advice on emailing potential research advisors and was wondering what your all thoughts were.  Since all of the programs I am applying to require that you complete multiple rotations before choosing an advisor, I am not sure how important this step is, and I really don't want to seem annoying.  I appreciate your advice.  Thanks

  6. I was almost exactly in your shoes last year (GPA of 3.6, though). I find that top schools tend to inflate student's GPAs. For example, an A at my undergrad institution is 93+/100, while at my grad institution (top school in Canada), an A/A+ is 85+/100. It seems that the work is comparable, though (though I'm only comparing a basic stats class at my grad institution to hand-writing 2-way ANOVAs at my undergrad institution) so it does not seem like it's any harder to get these grades.

All in all, I wouldn't worry too much about the GPA comparison. Research experience/fit with the program and lab are going to be more important. GPA is just a number that adcomms can use as cut off points (for the most part).

Thanks.  Do you think it is still worth sending the subject GRE score?  I am not sure if it will help or hurt as many schools highly recommend it, but my score isn't great.  And forgot to mention earlier, my general GRE scores were V169, Q165, AW 4.5.

Thanks again for your help everyone.  One of the bad things about a small liberal arts school is there aren't many people I can talk about this with and ask questions.

  7. Hi.  I go to a small liberal arts school so, even though I have a 4.0, I am worried that admissions committees won't know how to compare it to a 4.0 from top schools.  I took the biochemistry GRE to try to show that I have good science knowledge, but I only got an 83rd percentile.  I am unsure if sending this will help or hurt, so feedback would be great!  If it helps for context, I have 2 yrs independent research experience at my school, a summer fellowship at a top research institute through a national grant, and numerous poster presentations, but no publications except for a poster abstract that was published.

Thank you so much for your help!
