No one else heard back about the Tuition Fellowship or the Pre-MSW Research Fellowship? I've decided to commit to UW, so I'll be making my way to the West Coast soon. Looking forward to meeting some of you in the fall!
I e-mailed them with no response... Not responsive at all!

HI guys!
I received a $6k tuition fellowship early in this month,
but I was reject by the Lynn Pigott Mowe Scholars which is $3k one year.
do you know what is the highest tuition fellowship they offered this year ?
It seems that @morningjunky got 7k... Haven't heard about anyone else. I applied but haven't heard. I tried e-mailing swschol last week but haven't received any e-mail back

Has anyone else heard about the tuition fellowship?

I spoke to someone at the prospective student day (I have already accepted my loan offer but I haven't heard back from the tuition fellowship...). He told me that if you accepted a lot of financial aid, you can ask the office to not disperse your loan. BUT.. I will probably need my loans regardless.

Congrats on hearing back! I almost wish I had applied but I was so conflicted... (sigh)
I went to the prospective students day today. Seems that tuition fellowship applicants may hear back by next week. I hope so!

Congrats on UW!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I think Feb is when they told me I was wait listed for early decision. I guess that was a "decision" of sorts.
I haven't filed my FAFSA yet so I feel like I wouldn't get one of those financial aid notices that people have talked about elsewhere. But that might be the denial talking. =p
"Deflecting" is a good way to describe the interactions I have had with PSU.....
They told me a few days ago that I would know by the end of this week. It's Thursday.
Did you hear back? It is Saturday but that's when I heard back. 4pm PST on a Sat... not the time I'd imagine...

@ediblestranger how did you figure out it was the wrong email address? I am a little nervous I might've done the same
Oh no! When I sent it off, I got an email back immediately confirming that they received my app

I've decided on UW. I'm born and raised Seattle which should make me move out and do something different but... I love this city and it makes sense financially as I have a very reasonable landlord. On top of that, I cut my living expenses as my boyfriend now lives with me. I'm so excited to get started!!

Hi all!
I applied early decision to PSU's 2 year in-person MSW program. I was wait listed. They are now considering my application in the regular decision pool.
In short, I have been waiting a looooooong time.
At this late date I am preparing for the worst. (The worst would be a continuing wait list status; I see a plain rejection as an act of mercy).
Have people heard back from the regular decision in-person program one way or the other yet? I'm trying to gauge my odds right now. This was the only program I applied to and I'm beginning to think that an online program might be smarter (cheaper/more work-friendly) anyways....
PS. Congrats to all those who have been accepted!!!
I applied for early decision as well, but I received my response Feb 13th. I turned it down pretty quickly after I heard back from UW about two weeks later. They were really hard to get ahold of and somewhat deflecting. The big hint I got was that I received a financial aid notice 24hr before my official letter.
I'm sorry they're dragging you out so long!!!! It seems like that's somewhat common for them... :/

Good news: I received my financial aid award already! This is just... essentially for the loans. Haven't heard anything back from the fellowship tuition application.

I just registered for the March 31 Prospective Student Day event. I'll also be attending UW's MPA open house event on April 1, so it all works out. I've never been to SEattle so woop woop!
Cool! I will be on my way to Hawaii so I can't make that session (my life.. is pretty tough sometimes haha). I hope you have opportunities to do some roaming around the city.

Anyone else apply for the advanced standing program? I'm super disappointed we won't hear back until around March 31st. From what I was told when I called, there was an early decision deadline for people applying for the two year program, but not for advanced standing. Pretty annoying! I am going to have to accept another school's offer before I even hear back from UW, making it unlikely I will end up there unless they offer me a pretty amazing scholarship. Speaking of which, are folks getting financial aid packages with their acceptance letters?
Nope! It seems that they will be releasing financial aid info in May. It's really *really* late.

@LAT, Thank You so much for starting this thread. I have been passively reading EVERYTHING and it's time to be a bit more proactive.
I got into UW and I am so excited! I am relocating from Thailand (originally from the east coast of the US) and will definitely need some suggestions about the region.
The biggest thing for me will be housing - where to live and what's easily accessible to U District with public transport. I know Seattle a bit and love South Seattle, but that just doesn't make sense over the next couple years. What are the neighborhoods you would suggest to start the search?
Actually, since light rail is starting up... South side wouldn't be terrible... but really only if it is close to a light rail location. The station that will be closest to UW is actually by the hospital (not super close to social work building.. but it ain't bad).
So... Along light rail would be... Capital hill, Mount Baker, Columbia City, Rainier Beach... Rainier Beach is the furthest southeast you can get in city. Taking Light rail instead of a bus would be significantly faster (from Rainier to UW stadium would be 30... Cap hill to UW... 4 minutes. That last one is not a typo).
I currently live in the NW part of Seattle and I am fortunate that there is a bus line right outside my house that takes me straight to UW. Its hard to pinpoint all the neighborhoods with direct bus access.. since there are so many... but Wallingford and Ballard are along the 44 route. I am by the current 48 route (Loyal Heights, Crown hill, Greenlake). Pinehurst/Northgate/Roosevelt is another that would be accessible by the 73 or 67 route. I guess what I'm realizing at the end of this long long post... UW is basically "2nd downtown" when it comes to bus service. There is so much stuff that runs through... So there are a lot of opportunities. If you like south side more, start with those neighborhoods first!

Starting the thread! Will be entering the 2 year Day program. I am a Seattlelite and attended UW for my UG in Speech and Hearing Sciences. Funny enough, its connected to the Social Work building. Just wanted to throw things out there and share some excitedness.
It seems that many people may be coming in from out of state so if you have any questions about the city as a whole... Let me know!

It really is frustrating, isn't it? Our tuition deposit isn't due until June, but we are required to submit our intention to enroll as well as our background check by April 15. UW has a great program, but by May, I feel like everything would be neatly squared away already (health records, field placement application). I attended UW for undergrad and the building is pretty compact. The campus as a whole is large and really beautiful (I especially love the gothic architecture and grandiose libraries a la Harry Potter).
I went to UW for undergrad too. I've lived here my whole life and even if they offer only a little in the way of f aid, I already have housing and what not covered.
Congrats everyone!!

I got into UW! Will turn down PSU. In state tuition!!

I applied by the December deadline, but I'm still anxious to hear back! Hopefully you don't have to wait until March to find out.
I applied by December and I haven't heard yet either. Seems they will probably wait until Feb 26 or 29 based on the results page. Who knows! I'm totally not stressed about it at all (cries)

@BrendonSW well--keep us posted for sure! For the record, I thought your experience was really interesting.
I spent much of the day talking with my employer about tuition reimbursement, how they would view PSU vs. WNMU on a resume and how I should go about deciding should I get into both. Their response was overwhelmingly PSU. So, after combing their website one more time and looking at the tuition cost, (it's more like 15k difference not 20k and their Employed Social Worker option for some of the field work was pretty appealing) I did go ahead and accept. Sort of a relief. Going to be a LOT of peanut butter and jellies in my future...
Is anyone else on here waiting for word on the PSU online MSW option too? @kmarks1 and @AmandaN looks like you're both applying? @LAT, are you doing the online option?
Oh no, I applied for 2 year on campus option. I don't think my brain works with online classes. I'd be really sad to leave Seattle... but still waiting on UW response so I'm praying(!!!!!!a lot!!!!!!)

I'm right there with you @kmarks1, knowing there are only 40 spots for the online option is killing me. But it was really the only option that made sense for me since I'm already in the field and want to continue working for as long as possible. The competition is fierce! @BrendonSW I'm sorry PSU didn't offer you a place but I know you'll do great things at NYU or U of Michigan!
Holy.. only 40 spots?! For online?! That's crazy

I'm still waiting too! Which program did you apply for?
I applied for the IRL 2 year program. Like I was telling @BrendonSW (I'm sorry to hear about your bad news!! At least you have other colleges..) in another thread, I am really uncertain of my chances of being accepted. My top choice is UW, since I am from Seattle... but I was really hoping to hear back from PSU earlier so I could figure out my housing situation up here. 2016 is kicking my butt and waiting for this e-mail is torment. Did you apply for 2 year as well?

I *finally* got an e-mail from the fellowship. I was granted 6k... which I'm pretty darn happy about. I almost didn't see it because it came late in the afternoon and I just realized as I was going through my emails a day or so later.
I haven't heard any other information... at the student day a month or two ago... they said we would be registering by June 20th (as a tentative date)... Not so sure
