  1. my gf got rejected from UC Davis. Undergrad & MA GPA 4.0, 3 strong letters from Cornell, great research fit in animal anthropology. I guess she didn't have enough field work experience. Sad!
  2. Thanks. How many pages you have in your abridge thesis. The writing sample I had is a completed empirical work on urban family (25 pages), which is my proposed areas of interests. I don't know if this paper will be better choice than my thesis. By the way, my Master is in quantitative research not sociology.
  3. That's my concern too. Our MA program is 1 and half year. We started writing thesis this spring, and it's too long for WS 50+ pages. Undergrad GPA is 3.7
  4. Question like this: Would you like to be considered for program/department fellowships and support? Did anyone choose No. Will it affects chance of admission? Just curious.
  5. Thanks. My thesis still have many minor issues. I decided to submit my Event History paper instead, which I think it's better.
  6. A simple question. Does GRE matter much if you have a master in a related field? I don't have time to retake it this year.
  7. Yeah. I applied to a wide range of schools (18), really don't want to wait for another year.
  8. Based on what I heard from an ad from NYU, verbal need to be around 80%, quant 60%. For ESL student verbal need to be 60% to be considered.
  9. Thank you. I thought so too. I am retaking in Nov, but the new scores will miss several schools' deadlines in Dec. (I am an international student.)
  10. What kind of Phd programs can I get in with Master (Soc) GPA 3.64, GRE verbal 152, Quant 163, two strong LORs, 2 year RA experiences. I'm thinking about NYU, CUNY-grad, Penn State, Stony Brook...
  11. Hi Roll Right! I'm thinking about applying to GMU Phd this year. I would like to know what is the commonly used approach for research among the students and faculties. I heard GMU has expertise in applied evaluation research and inequality. I have background in economics and I currently getting my applied quantitative research master at NYU. However, I don't have many background in sociological theory and my verbal is low (153), I wonder if I can be a good in this program. Any comment would be helpful, thank you!
