  1. Looks like Northwestern rejections are out. Pretty sad about it as I worked really hard on the application and it's my first rejection. Oh well. Here's to hoping everything else works out.
  2. Did anyone else apply to Minnesota? Does anyone know much about their history department/the university/minneapolis (literally anything, I only got as far as knowing the professor I want to work with)?
  3. So according to the results from last year, Stanford, Northwestern, NYU, WashU, IU, NC state, Boston College, Minnesota, John Hopkins, William and Mary, and Yale sent out their results (whether rejections or acceptances) this week last year (mostly on Thursday/Friday). I'd be relieved to find out where I'm rejected from sooner rather than later so I'm happy to find out either way. I'm hoping some of these universities make these decisions this week as well. Good luck to you all. Wishing you the best.
  4. Sorry about the rejection Hopefully the rest of your cycle goes well nonetheless. I'd resigned myself to inevitable rejection as well (idk if I should bother contacting my POI) but this is slightly (and possibly unnecessarily) getting my hopes up.
  5. Have the people who heard from NYU previously been in contact with POI or was the email from the DGS?
  6. Congrats to the NYU admit! Now I'm stressed/scared.
  7. If it isn't too much of a bother, could you link that thread? I went back some pages and even googled it but couldn't find it. Thanks!
  8. you're right. i probably need to distract myself with something rather than refresh my email 100 times a day waiting for emails that won't probably come for another month.
  9. It just occurred to me that my gre scores are really low (well maybe not just, but probably was denying it to myself until now...) so currently preparing myself for rejection as I anxiously wait...
  10. Oh, wow. Thanks! I would have sent a 30 page sample had I not seen this post...
  11. Wait where does it say 20 pages?
  12. I know that somewhere on Michigan's website it said that they strongly encouraged people to contact faculty before applying, and I only know because I double checked before posting here. Go figure, can't find that page now. Anyway, I'm okay with the decision not to apply as I am way too stressed about the other applications to add another to the pile. If it doesn't work out this round, I'll definitely try next year.
  13. Checking in to say I finally got my SOP to 500 words and now I like it much better than the long one. Oh well. Hope everyone else's applications/work/lives are going well. For people who applied to Michigan, did you contact your POI? I emailed two profs almost a month ago and they never got back to me. I feel bad because I really wanted to work with one of them but their website says that they strongly recommend you not apply unless you've corresponded with someone. I don't think I'll bother with the application but it kind of sucks.
  14. i'll try but it's quite hard to fit research interest + experience + people you want to work with in just under 500 words... basically i want them to know everything about me and pick me
  15. Is anyone else applying to NYU? If so, is anyone else stressed out about the two page double spaced SOP? As it is my base SOP is far too long and I need to cut things out but I don't know how I'll ever get it to 2 pages double spaced.......
  16. Thank you all! I actually sent two emails (*pats back*) and got one response in less than 15 minutes. Yes I am a woman as well and I am so used to apologizing for everything and taking up as little space as possible. *Sigh* It's depressing. I try to watch myself but it's second nature. (Also socialization and all that but god how I wish others would do the same when they don't respect my space.......)
  17. Ok I finally drafted an email. Any suggestions on what I should write in the subject (...like I said, I get worried about everything)? Also should I apologize for writing it so late? Thanks in advance.
  18. Hey, thank you so much for the advice. I think I'll try and see what happens. I'll probably make a million drafts before sending it out (...or I'll get too anxious and forget the whole thing) but I'll definitely make an effort. I know all the reasons it's useful, but it still scares me.
  19. Hi all. I need some advice related to emailing POIs. I have been too anxious to email any POIs and was hoping I could just send my applications without it. However, two of the programs I was going to apply to strongly suggest doing so. I've already crossed one out but I still am seriously considering applying to the other. However, it is now one month before the deadline. Do you think it will look bad if I email a potential POI now (it being kind of last minute and all) or should I just let it go? (I'm currently leaning towards the latter option...)
