  1. I think it's just that different disciplines prefer different citation styles. History uses Chicago whereas English/lit/critical theory use MLA, at least in my experience. I don't think any of them are more academic than the other, just different ways of accomplishing the same thing.
  2. haha no wisdom here, just reflecting after speaking to people who went through the process blind. they seemed so much happier.
  3. Sometimes I think all the info we get on grad cafe makes the whole process even worse. I wish I hadn't known anything before.
  4. A great place to start is The Oxford Handbook of the History of International Law. Other than that, if you have access to it, consider the journal of the history of international law.

    Plan B?

If you're in any way interested in African legal history, you should consider it. There's a great Africanist legal historian at Stanford and many with interests in it in related fields (i.e. legal anthropology).
  6. This is great to hear! I don't think it could hurt.
  7. Congrats to all the Brown and Chicago admits!! I just found out I was waitlisted at Stanford. Not sure how to feel about this. The cohort is so small so likeliness of getting off the waitlist seems slim. I got a nice email from the chair as well. Should I respond and ask how long the waitlist is or is that not appropriate right now?
  8. Thanks for letting us know! This is my last school thank god. They'll put me out of my misery one way or another.
  9. Here's to hoping Columbia notifies tomorrow...
  10. I found out i got rejected today, so it's over for me anyway. Congrats to anyone who was accepted. Good luck to you too! I'm doing legal history. What's your focus?
  11. I was interviewed but didn't hear back, sadly. Hoping we hear back this week. They notified this time last year.
  12. Looks like NYU rejections are out because I got the email. Sad, it was my top choice but I got into a higher ranked program (if these things even matter at this point). Oh well.
  13. I'm hoping to hear from them too. I check the website (and my email) daily but nothing yet. If last year's acceptances are any indication, we should be hearing from them around the end of the week.
  14. Whoever wrote "I'd like to thank Beyoncé" with their Yale acceptance made my (otherwise dull) day. Congrats to all!
  15. That new NYU admit gave me some hope until I read the date...lol congrats though!
  16. I've begun dreading the weekend because of this lol
  17. haha I'm really tempted but instead of bothering already busy people, I'll wait until March 1st. If I don't hear back...I'm assuming the worst.
  18. Sorry to sound like a broken record but anyone know if NYU is done? When is the recruitment weekend? Is it too early to email them?
  19. I keep telling myself that false hope is better than no hope at all.....hang in there. You're right. I have no idea what time adcoms meet/decide these things so I'm on alert, checking my email, from like 9am.
  20. I know that most of the schools I'm waiting on won't be accepting people until next week but it hasn't prevented me from holding out hope for today...
  21. I'm also still wondering about this. They seem to send their rejections really late though, so it's hard to know. I wonder when their recruitment weekend is. I imagine if you dont get an invite before then, it's over.
  22. @hbnj @emiliajulia thanks for the responses guys. i'm not sure if my schools will even reimburse so i'll wait to find out about funding before asking about that or other options.
  23. I live abroad. Do you think recruitment weekends will cover expenses for students coming from abroad? I wouldn't mind investing in coming to the US for a one or two week period but my recruitment weekends are spaced so far apart (for example, one is is the first weekend of March and another is the first weekend of April) that I'm not sure I could swing it. I also think I'd be missing out on a lot of valuable information and am not really sure where I'm going to accept at this point.
  24. Congrats to all the UW-Madison admits!
