  1. Zrzka- yikes, that does not sound like a pleasant experience! Hopefully the program itself is better run than the lack of communication suggests...
  2. Has anyone heard anything from the University of Montana? I know last year there was some supplemental information provided to some applicants early (like January), but I've never received any sort of correspondence (even during the application process when I emailed questions. Just wondering if anyone had heard from them!
  3. Thanks so much for the info! It is so helpful to hear how others are going through this proces. Good luck everyone!
  4. Is anyone familiar with this program? They do not use CSDCAS, ask for a resume, or receive LOR (just a list of three references). I have submitted all of my application but my SOP, which is only supposed to be one page (double spaced). Since this program will have no idea about experiences (NSSHLA, volunteering, work within the field) and the SOP is so short, I was wondering if anyone was familiar with the type of applicants usually admitted or any general advice. Thank you!
  5. While most of us are either done, or nearly done with Fall applications, I'm curious how other people did their SOP's. I am applying after being out of school for two years, so I do not have classmates to consult! While the main idea is similar, all six programs I applied to have slightly different guideline for the SOP (why you want to be an SLP, describe your experiences, why our program, what interpersonal skills do you have, etc). I'm finishing my last one now, and I am essentially copying and pasting portions from different papers that fit this particular guideline. Did anyone just use the same essay, but change the school name, or did you feel like you needed to really change and restructure based on the guidelines. How strict do you think programs are regarding their SOP guidelines (do they just want to get to know you, or do they really want each questions answered explicitly?)
  6. I also used Magoosh. I did all of the verbal lessons and questions and I used the flashcard app (1,000 words). I also watched all of the writing lessons. I did not get around to much with the quant though. My scores went from 151q/152v/4.0 to 152q/162v/4.5 The ten point jump on verbal was worth it! I highly recommend (especially for the price)
  7. I tweaked margins slightly on an SOP that I sent to one of my references (a CSD prof) to review, and she immediately noticed they were not the standard one inch. I know shortening an SOP is awful, but it is probably necessary. Good luck!
  8. I am applying to University of Northern Colorado's distance program, and in the "course material" section (CSDCAS) the only prerequisite required is "academic preparation". I cannot find a description or information anywhere. Is anyone familiar with this? Thanks!
  9. I sent my transcripts the second week of October, CSDCAS marked them "received" 11/4, and I was verified 12/4. So it really did take a full month, after they were received. Even though the email indicated my GPA and other information would be available within the day, this information did not display for another two days. Good luck!
  10. Thank you so much! I'm in the same boat as far as everything being submitted and verified by CSDCAS, just the SOP, but I really do not want to rush that anymore than necessary.
  11. The application deadline is January 15, but on their website they "strongly urge" applications are submitted by November 15th. I have my CSDCAS application done, most of my letters of rec are in, and my transcripts are received, I'm just working on the SOP. Does anyone know about this program? Is it worth submitting after this date, even though my application will still be on time (well over a month early) Thanks!
  12. USC and Idaho as well
  13. I did my undergrad in CSD there. The facility itself is beautiful with great features (new clinic). Grad students from there have said it is not ideal if you hope to work with adults; the focus is more on working in schools/early intervention. I also now it is exhausting, challenging and stressful (but what program isn't). I am not in the program, so take this with a grain of salt! Bellingham is a really amazing town and I know the people in the program are very supportive of one another. Good luck!
  14. Like JMK said, these courses are not required or considered when applying for grad school. Definitely make an effort to take statistics, physics or chemistry and a biological science, as most/many grad programs requires this, even if not all are required by ASHA (yet). As an undergrad, even though i knew from the beginning I was going to be a CSD major, I opted for different math courses and lab sciences to fulfill the required credits at my school (geology, business math etc). As a junior and senior, I had to make time to take chemistry (though physics is a better options for most programs), biology and statistics. It was just an inefficient use of my time/courses, so focus on that!
  15. I am currently working on my applications through CSDCAS, and was planning on having everything in my December 4th (four weeks before the deadline of January 1). This is the date I told my references as well. I just saw on a FAQ page on USC's website that if an application is submitted the last week of November it is likely not valid, and the student is assumed to be a procrastinator, therefore a non ideal candidate. I was wondering if anyone knew anything about this program/the validity of this information, it seems a bit absurd but I don't want to waste my time/money if I can't be considered turning my application in only a month early. Thanks!
