    Greetings All,

Question: How does one go about denying an offer of admission? I feel bad just responding to the decision letter with a "no" and that's it. Should I actually write something other than submitting the "no"? Like a very brief letter thanking them and offering a brief insight into my choice (nothing too detailed)? Or is nothing further than a "no" warranted?

    Thanks!

I found this Quora thread very helpful: https://www.quora.com/When-declining-an-offer-of-admission-to-a-PhD-program-is-it-better-to-give-an-explanation-for-the-decision-or-to-keep-things-short

    tldr: keep it short. :)

  2. I've ghosted this forum due to being busy - despite being fairly active at first - but I just wanted to swoop back in and say congratulations to everyone on the very busy past two months (and to those who are still interviewing also... I'm pretty sure there are a few??) I met so many amazing people on interviews, no doubt some who have been helpful and active in this thread; it is honestly such an interesting experience! The next month is going to be difficult to make decisions, but I know regardless of that by April 15 we'll all be heading amazing places.

Good luck to all and many happy wishes! Hope to see you all at conferences / in the news down the line :D

  3. Late to the party, but Stanford Cancer Bio! Screamed when I got the email. Congrats to everyone!

Just got back from my first interview! It was SO much fun, and way less stressful than I imagined.

Whee that's so great! I'm nervous for my first one next week. Glad it went so well for you!! :)

This might not be the post you meant, but maybe it will help:

Feel free to comment questions on the post or pose them to me, here. It might take me a day or so to get back to you as I'm in the middle of trying to finish a paper for publication. :)

You are WONDERFUL, this is it!! I just trawled through like 20 pages of the forum to no avail because I couldn't remember where it was - but it was fun to look through all of the pre-December first posts also ;) Thanks so much, @biotechie !

  5. Joining the list of those hyperventilating about Stanford Cancer Bio. *screams*

By the way, those of you more connected with thegradcafe's past forums - I remember there being a link to a super helpful megapost about dos and don'ts at interviews a while back. Would someone mind linking that again? I'd really appreciate it! <3

I got the invite as well! But both interview sessions conflict with other interviews I have :(

In the same boat. I emailed the program coordinator and she said that they keep a running list of students interested in Skype interviews. She'll contact everyone on the list if/when the adcom decides to allow for Skype interviews. So here's to hoping there's enough of us with scheduling conflicts!

Congrats guys! Yeah it sucks that there are only so many weekends between now and April 15... But I hope it works out for you! :)

Hi all! Does anyone know anything about the UCSF TETRAD interview? I was invited to their February 25 interview date, but is it a visit weekend or just the interview? Their email was very brief.

This is probably not helpful but I haven't heard anything from UCSF yet so this is a bit of a follow up question also... Does anyone know if TETRAD has finished sending out interview invites? if not i wouldn't be surprised if the email was a preliminary one for accepted interviews and more details will come later as they solidify things...

I'm getting a little worried about my Stanford app...I logged in to their online checklist and under transcripts, it still says "Received (not official)", even though I had them sent in early November. Anyone else in the same boat? I'm hoping they just haven't updated transcript status in their online application.

Why do programs even require official transcripts for admissions purposes anyway? They have us upload scanned copies of them...

idk if this has already been said, but my app says the same thing - I read into it a little closer though, and it says somewhere at the top that they only need your unofficial transcript for the initial review process and will use the official one later on in the time of acceptance...

Should be pretty soon ... i heard apps are in final stages of review this week so invites should be coming out soon ... they are also pretty good at sending out rejections along with interviews so you don't have to sit around wondering ...

Ah cool! Good to hear.. It'd be great to have a somewhat stress free christmas

And I assume you're talking about football here, but MSU's basketball team is also scary good this year! I'm a big Maryland basketball fan (go terps!) because that's where I'm from, so I look forward to playing you guys (and Denzel Valentine) once conference play starts :)))

Haha yes, I do bleed green and white! Spent 5 years there for undergrad. All I want for Christmas is a national championship title. Go Green!!

Go green! I'm finishing up my undergrad here on the banks of the Red Cedar and will miss East Lansing dearly. and @den-of-thieves , will definitely be looking forward to that matchup. It's been a pretty great past few years to be a student here, that's for sure...

Excited for Dec 31... See ya, Bama :)

Thanks for the responses guys! I will just keep refreshing my email. Thankfully, I am going to see the new Star Wars movie tomorrow night, so it'll occupy my mind for a while :)

Also, not sure if anyone here is applying to the Penn Neuroscience program, but I think they also send out invites in waves. My PI is on the adcom for neuro and she is still reviewing apps!

Star Wars is a definitely way to keep yourself occupied. So excited :D:D:D

PS... I see your username... Do you happen to attend a certain school in Michigan? ;)

My call was for MCGD not MMPP, but the area code was 203.

Gotcha. I'll just sit tight... I guess it could have been from a personal phone or something. Logged in and didn't see anything change on my app. I'll just be here nibbling on my fingers and trying to breathe :)

Got a call from Yale BBS (MMPP) this morning for an interview. Duke neurobiology also emailed yesterday. YAY!

I also applied MMPP and I got a missed call at like 9am today... but the area code was like 440 or something (not New Haven according to my caller ID). My only thought was it could have been Cleveland but I've already talked to them...?
This is being borderline paranoid but do any of you guys who got an MMPP interview know the area code you got the call from? :o I feel like I should call them back bu they didn't leave a message either... :'(
