  1. 1) After a really difficult decision I chose to commit to Teachers College Columbia. It was not my initial first choice (MGH was) but after being offered a significant scholarship it became a great option! It ultimately came down to staying in state (University of Minnesota) or taking the best financial choice out of state which surprisingly came down to be Columbia! Don't get me wrong cost of living will be crazy, but I wanted at adventure and NYC will give me that! Columbia also has a lot of opportunities that many universities down, such as a study abroad! I will never know if I made the right decision, but at least I can know I took a chance and the risk of moving out of state!

    2) I applied to 7 schools. Rush, University of Minnesota, MGH, ASU, University of Kansas, NYU,  and TC Columbia.

Some how I was accepted to all of them! Which made it a tough choice!

guys, can someone give me the tuition calculations? thanks

48 credits at 1,538/credit. They said at the open house that the average CSD background student completes the program in 5-7 semesters. So keep in mind if you're living in NYC for up to 7 semesters the cost of living may be more expensive, even though the tuition itself isn't.

When were those bad reviews from? I've heard the program has improved drastically in the past 3-5 years, and also heard exactly like the other person wrote above (great profs, strong clinic sequence, tight-knit students). Is it differing opinions or is the negative stuff outdated??

I'm sure the negative stuff was a couple of years ago, they seem like they have tried to revamp the program. Just things I read! Not trying to sway anyone's opinion, I also am trying to sort it all out!

@rose6593 thanks so much for setting up the FB group! Is there any way you could make it private? I'd love to join but can't let some of my Facebook friends (coworkers) see. Either way, looking forward to meeting you at the NYU or TC events this week.

If you guys are having trouble joining the group because of this let me know! I can send the link to join the group privately if needed.

Are any of you attending the admitted students day? I just booked my flight and hotel! :)

Also, @rose6593 when did you submit your FAFSA application? I recently submitted mine and that's why I'm thinking I still haven't received an award on my admitted students webpage.

I submitted my FAFSA before March 1st, I'm not sure about the exact date but it was before the priority deadline. I also am planning to attend the admitted students day!

What are the negative things that you've heard? I haven't really heard much about nyu either

I have just read various reviews, and past threads on gradcafe that commented on the disorganization of the program. Also that the program as a whole takes a lot longer than most programs and ends up costing a lot more, on top of the fact that it is already an incredibly expensive program.

I'm 98% sure I'm going to be committing to NYU! I've heard some fantastic things about the program. Is anyone else leaning towards NYU?

Hi @slp2be1345 just curious what fantastic things you've heard about the program? I am considering this school but actually have heard not the best things and would love to hear positive things people have to share!

  8. Anybody else trying to attend both the NYU and Teachers College open houses? They are scheduled on the same day, and over lap on timing in the morning. I am traveling all the way from Minnesota, so it seems silly for me to not try to make it both. Just curious if anyone else is trying to figure out the scheduling for both of these as well! I don't want to be rude by arriving late or leaving early from one or another, but also want to make sure I am able to get a glimpse of both!

Initial certification if you have the background is around 50 I believe (2 years with one summer). I am unsure about the dual certification, however they have a great pdf handbook on their website, I can't remember exactly what it is called but it's really helpful and lays out all of the classes you need you take. It's not hard to find, just right on the page for the program!

here it is! There's also a student plan handbook from last year, but would probably give you a good idea of what to expect. Hope that helps!

Thank you so much @rose6593. I'll keep checking and hopefully they'll update it soon so I don't go crazy with the waiting haha! Are you thinking of accepting at TC, or are you still deciding between schools?

That's a great question! I have no idea yet. I was offered a pretty big scholarship at TC so it's definitely at the top of my list. I am going to go to the open house and also the one at NYU since it is the same weekend. MGH and the U of M in my hometown are also still on my list. It's hard making a decision! Are you accepting at TC?

@Skymasuko I should definitely be attending admitted students day on April 1st! Excited to see you there!

In terms of financial aid, I submitted my FAFSA by the March 1st deadline. On "next steps" page of the admitted students website, it says that my FAFSA has been received and that I should get an email when a financial aid award is ready. That's definitely a relief, since I guess it means they just haven't done mine yet. Did you get an email notification of your award @rose6593 ? (Sorry to bother you with all these financial aid questions haha)

Don't worry about all of the questions ? Financial aid is important business at such an expensive school! I did not receive an email. I just went onto the admitted student page and clicked on the financial aid award letter and it was all uploaded on there. I submitted my FAFSA sometime before the March 1st deadline as well. I believe the scholarships that TC offers are separate from FAFSA, the letter tries to show the break downs between what is offered as a scholarship through TC and what are federal grants, loans etc. I'm guessing they just wait to update it until they have the FAFSA complete though even if they have your individual scholarship already figured out. I'm sure it will be coming soon ?

Hi @rose6593, I just checked my financial aid award letter on the admitted students webpage, but it didn't have any numbers in it (except for the cost of tuition haha). I don't know if this means that they gave me no financial aid, or if they haven't updated my letter yet. Very anxious. I'll probably call them tomorrow. Did your letter contain an actual aid award?

Yes mine did have a financial aid award. Both the scholarship from TC and the FAFSA portion I believe. The first day I checked my letter though it was the same as yours, it took about a day after I was accepted for it to be updated. I'm sure it's coming for you! There's no way they didn't offer you anything, I would imagine everyone at least is offered loans! However I am unfamiliar with how financial aid works from school to school.
