I'm slightly turned off that it's taking so long, but I'm not sure that's a fair reaction. But yeah, no strong indications of what's going on via the results page.

Anyway, good luck with all your programs!! :) You never know until you know, right?

Hey thanks y'all for posting news. I was at another program's admit day and another recruited student told me that apparently UCSC FEMST already had their admit day this week. Idk why they are telling us that no decisions have been made. I have a feeling it's bc they don't know who will accept the offers of admission. Anyways good luck to everyone with this frustrating process !!

Regarding UCSC, I was able to get a subtle idea of my position on their list of applicants. I told them I was beginning to visit schools where I was accepted and was hopeful they might share their decision to make my decision easier (because, my god, why is it taking so long??). They were very clear that NO decisions were finalized, but did let me know I was not in their pool of top contenders, but then reiterated that I wasn't being denied or accepted and that no final selections have been made. So, I'm not sure if contacting them was even very helpful. Just thought I'd share the news.

wow thanks for contacting them and letting us all know! I'm in the same position, visiting other programs, and would like to make a decision!! I have no idea what is taking them so long. If you don't mind sharing, what exactly did they say that indicated you are not in their "top pool"? this just all seems super ambiguous and frustrating! feel free to send me a PM! thanks again :)

    i haven't heard either

but without revealing names, i am an MA in gender studies at queen's university right now and a prof here i'm friends with knows a junior faculty member at UCSC who told her that official offers were coming early this week. since it's wednesday i'm betting i can expect a rejection.

i was kind of hoping i'd be the next sandy stone or eva hayward since the HistCon program there (which kind of birthed feminist studies) has had about one trans woman doctoral candidate a decade. I thought it was my time! and my project's cool. but we'll see.

    fingers crossed for everyone

oh and since i hadn't posted before i got rejected at Rutgers and UW. and if UCSC rejects me too then it's a resounding NO from all gender/feminist/women's studies programs despite BA with honors thesis and current MA all in gender studies. oh well. I'm wait listed at USC for american studies and ethnicity, so i hope that comes through. they may be reading my work as not really about gender...

hey! thanks for responding! sent you a PM! :)

Hi all, I'm still waiting to hear any news from UCSB and also Utrecht. Apparently although the uni said that it takes about 1 month until applicants get their decision, I just got an email from Utrecht last night saying that my application is still on process and it's almost been 1 month so idk whether I will hear when any moment now or about one month from now.

@lazaria did you call for all of the applications (by all I mean both Masters and Ph.D)? Do you think I should email them (and if so, do I email the graduate director or do you suggest other contact person)?

@kitzi94 congrats for the offer! Did you apply for master's or Ph.D?

Hi, yes, I applied for the PhD, and know that they've notified all PhD acceptances, but I'm not sure about MA

I'm sure they probably sent out all acceptances. Oh well.

Yea I applied to Ethnic Studies, Gender Studies, and American studies programs. I got into an ethnic studies program with a 4 yr fellowship but I feel really bummed about it. It was on my top 5 but it was #5 so it would have been nice if I've got into any of my higher choices.

getting into any phd program (not to mention with funding!) is no small feat!! that is super awesome and impressive that you were accepted with a 4 year fellowship! i was super super bummed out about not getting into my top choice gender studies program, and after talking to both profs and students who have gone through the process, it seems that rejections do not mean you are not qualified, but that the program was just not the perfect fit, and that they can't nurture your research. i think programs do a good job of sorting out who belongs where. if you were accepted to a phd program you are obviously qualified, and everything comes down to fit. i hope this helps some. i know how much it sucks to get rejected from your top choices, but if you really dislike the program to which you've been accepted, you can always transfer!! sending lots of good vibes your way.

did you hear back from UCSD? I saw someone post on the result page that they've been admitted. I been waiting on their decision so I'm taking if you heard back and I haven't, then its a no.

It's a really good program. I think both Berkeley and UCSD have amazing Ethnic Studies programs.. both at the very top. At this point it comes down to how much in fellowships they are offering and your match in research.

yep, that was me on the results board. i'm not sure if they've sent out all decisions yet, though. are you applying to only ethnic studies?

  7. i say just do it. it won't change the outcome if they have already decided. i got one rude response that indicated i had been rejected. one very kind response saying the committee was still reading apps, and would send out decisions soon, and one acceptance! so i think it is worth it if you can't stand the wait!!

I just wanted to drop in and say I heard back from USC's ASE department. I'm in a special situation, though, so I'm not sure if they've decided or sent out other notifications yet. I did hear that there's 6-9 candidates who will be invited to recruitment. Good luck to all who applied!

Hey @1Q84 thanks for posting this. I haven't heard back yet so I'm assuming they'll be sending rejections out later. Wishing you lots of luck in the rest of the process! Keep us posted!

Applying for Feminist Studies MA UCSB, Gender Studies in Utrecht University NL, ISS The Hague NL, SOAS University of London UK, UCL UK. I did terrible on GRE but I really want to get in to UCSB since I find the program suits my personality better than other programs I'm applying to

yeah the UCSB program looks great--I didn't realize they had an MA program. I know someone in the Utrecht program now. good luck!
