  1. @shoestofollow and @RydraWong Hey! I'm going to the UW March visit as well! I'm also in at Indiana Bloomington's rhetoric PhD and just heard from Illinois's English Studies. Can't wait to talk to everyone!
  2. I audited a poetry courses in UTEP's MFA while deciding where to apply. The professor didn't speak Spanish, but she expected everyone to speak Spanish
  3. Hey y'all I just got acceptances from Wisconsin-Madison and Indiana (rhetoric). Love to hear from anyone else accepted. Congrats to everyone who's heard back recently!
  4. Why did I think I could check the Results page "just for fun"?
  5. @Kilos I don't know you, and I'm also late to the thread, but I'm so sorry to hear that you lost someone special during this already stressful time. I lost my grandmother (she basically raised me) before starting a new program this past semester, and the emotional confusion while needing to get "stuff done" was frustrating.
  6. Mine were almost the same. I haven't heard back from them yet. I know some rejections for ethnic studies went out yesterday, which I was not a part of. It's a really late reply, but with the diversity fellowship, I referenced the same issues, but displayed my leadership skills in the diversity fellowship.
  7. I could only apply to one program from each school so I applied to UCSB's feminist studies program. Difficult choice!
  8. @pbnwhey No, I unfortunately didn't. I was trying to juggle getting 10 schools down and it was getting difficult to balance school, teaching, and apps. I know UCSD definitely have a lot of great stuff coming out of their department. I had to make a cut, and knew I had to apply to UCSC and UCSB because their feminist studies programs are perfect for my interests. I'll cross my fingers for me and you!
  9. My whole application is framed through queer chicana stuff! Pretty close interests! Yay! I have to explain that to people too. I applied to so many programs, but the voice of my application was generally the same. For gender/feminist studies, I applied to UCSB, UCSC, U of Washington, and U of AZ. The last two I got rejections (Arizona told me to apply for a PhD in English) For Chicanx/cultural/ethnic/latino studies, I applied to UCLA (rejected), UC Riverside, UC Davis, Tulane, and Michigan State. So I have half of the schools down. Michigan let me know they nominated me a fellowship (fingers crossed). I know getting into any UC school is ridiculously hard, which must mean you are amazing! UC Davis, UC Riverside, and Michigan were my top choices in their group, but UCSB and UCSC are also fantastic. I'm mostly doubtful about getting in because my undergrad is in rhetoric, but my MFA is in poetry.
  10. @queeraf I'm glad to see someone that has similar interests on this forum too! When I was selecting schools, I was pretty focused on finding which places would be supportive of queer Chicanx work! I guess that's why I applied to so many different programs, but my research interests stayed the same in my application. I'm rooting for you!
  11. @queeraf It didn't hurt too much. I like that Michigan has faculty I really like. I'm still waiting for UCSB and UCSC for feminist studies, but I know their programs are super competitive. I don't understand the process very much either. I know some places do rejections in waves. When I applied for my MFA I wasn't nearly as tuned into needing to know how many were admitted into schools I applied to. I was trying to do research, but then I figured doing that won't get me in anywhere. I'm crossing my fingers for you! If you haven't gotten a rejection yet, you must be in a smaller pool of great applicants!
  12. Just got a rejection from U of Washington. I was just accepted into Michigan State though so that helped with the blow.
  13. I applied to some ethnic/cultural studies programs too. Where did you apply? I was just rejected by Berkeley and UCLA
  14. Congrats! I considered applying to that since my undergrad is in rhetoric, but I applied to the Chicano/Latino Studies and just got in!
