Thank you for sharing your thoughts on the subject. To be quite honest I was really excited about the program and the prospect of possibly attending. However after visiting I find myself a bit disappointed. While speaking with students one asked who I was interviewing with and after sharing with them the names they had no idea who those professors were. This seemed really strange to me. I had a friend attend the open house event with me and their opinion was very similar to mine. Am I wrong in believing Hunter to be an excellent and reputable program? Did you get the sense you have a lot of studio visits with faculty? One student in their 3rd semester had only 6 total visits from faculty which seems quite low. I also noticed the immaturity you mentioned. I am not a spring chicken...lol.

My interview went well. It was quicker than other interviews I have had and a little intense.

I too left disappointed and had hoped that Hunter was the answer to my issues with MFA programs.  I got a sense that the program could be isolating and not effective if not taken into ones own hands (much like life).  This lack of initiative on the part of many of the students was unnerving, made me wonder if I would go nuts surrounded by that for 3 years.  I also found some of the more engaged students (the ones who were around to help during interview day) to be do-gooders and too focused on being students.  The few students that I asked how many times they met with faculty seemed to vary. Did you get a sense of what critiques are like? Also, who did you interview with?

  2. Any of you writing thank you noted to interviewers?  I've asked around, but I only have connections to other fields (not art) and many have said that this is slimy/corporate behavior and not necessarily fit for an academic institutions.   That said, I have this nagging feeling like I am missing something!

HOw was your hunter interview ?? I interviewed too

My interview felt too quick.  I didn't get to touch on several subjects that I truly regret not getting to.  Other than that, I found every one pleasant and the environment seemed to have more potential for growth than programs that have the intensely critical/power play kind of culture?  What was your take?  How was your interview.  Unrelated, but thanks for posting alll this hunter stuff previously.  Work and life in the last month has prevented me from being able to sit down and engage.

Interviewed at Hunter. Did anyone else who interviewed or attended open studios Friday night get the impression that the current MFA students weren’t really excited or happy with the program?

Hi, I didn't get the sense the students weren't happy, but I did notice a certain lethargy.  Didn't really pin-point it until reading your post.  That said, there were a few engaging students.  I did notice a certain immaturity among some (even though most of the students are not fresh out of under-grad).  Any one else care to share their observations?

Hello, long time creeper here. I also got the email from Columbia regarding FAFSA and CCS. The email made me jump! lol

Hi, they usually call (for columbia interviews).  Good thing I bought my phone on eBay and it hardly ever catches messages on my voicemail!

Hey guys. I have been creeping on this forum and haven't posted yet.  Congrats to everyone who has recieved good news. I have an interview with Yale for painting and just received a call from Columbia for an interview also. Thought folks would like the Columbia update.

Congratulations!  Best of luck at the hot interviews. Thanks for the heads up.  Also, to put a rumor to rest, does your slide room say MFA?

yay 1 more thing for me to freak out about.

Mine still says MFA in slideroom.

When i was reviewing forums a few weeks ago it was really hard to determine if it was actually a thing or not.  I feel like i saw people who said they no longer had MFA there with signatures that actually did say they got an interview later.  I don't know maybe I'm wrong, I'm trying to look through this forum less and it doesn't seem to be working out for me haha.

By the looks of your interview list, you don't have much to freak out about!  Hope you manage to have fun at the interviews.

  8. As to recommendations, sorry to hear that some of you had a hard time with that.  It is really troubling to hear that former professors did not respond.  Not to sound too entitled, but I feel as if that is part of their job!
