  1. I am also assuming that if we haven't heard anything yet that it means rejection, waitlisted in the best case scenario. Any insights?
  2. Hey, So I thought I could offer some insight. I am a current Syracuse undergrad senior in the IR department and have recently been accepted into Maxwell/Newhouse's Public Diplomacy (MA in IR and MS in PR in two years, great deal!). I also work at the abroad office at Syracuse. I can tell you that Syracuse is expensive, really expensive. But just like any other private expensive university, they offer tons of internal fellowships/grants, all you have to do is search for them. For example I applied for the FLAS fellowship and am hoping to get a GAship of some sort. Funding is a huge question for me, so if I get none I am going to have to rethink somethings. Also, the cost of living in Syracuse is pretty low, I am assuming lower than Denver but I am not positive. If you want to work in the UN I would say Syracuse is a great place to try and get your foot in the door. Off of the top of my head there are two professors that are closely tied to the UN and still do work for them on a regular basis. One worked for them for like 20 years helping to write resolutions and stuff like that and still knows ALOT of people. During the summers he takes a cohort of about 20 IR grad students to Geneva and sets them up with amazing internships with his contacts at the UN. The other grad prof that has a bunch of UN contacts is a woman who before coming to Syracuse was the Director of the UN's World Food Program in Rome for about 30 years and she also has amazing connections that she shares with students. Syracuse also has a campus in DC (the Greenberg House in Adams Morgen) where you can take classes for a semester and do an internship in the city. The program in DC is run by an amazing guy who worked for State for a number of years and knows just about everyone in DC, his rolodex is huge, trust me I've used it before haha. Fun fact, both Korbel and Pitt use our center for their DC semester program. I know Syracuse is kind of under the radar for an IR program but it really is an awesome program with tons of support and amazing people. Plus out of all the top IR schools, who has the best basketball team?!? hahah I know you probably don't care, but SU basketball is a lot of fun. Also, here is a list of some of the study abroad programs (off the top of my head) that a lot of the grad students do; Geneva internship program (summer) Cuenca and Santiago (semester, SU campus) Global Europe (semester) Frei University in Berlin (semester) Beijing (semester, SU campus) Hong Kong (semester, SU campus) London (semester, SU campus) Strasbourg (semester, SU campus) Madrid (semester, SU campus) Florence(semester, SU campus) AU in Cairo AU in Beirut There are a ton more that I just can't think of. I hope this helps a little, and please feel free to PM me if you have anymore questions. -Mike
  3. well I finally figured out that I was using the wrong pin, I was using the one for my Gtown app. Unfortunately I was not accepted into the program. You win some you lose some.
  4. Hey, Just curious if anyone else received an email this morning informing them that a decision has been made and to go to your application profile to view the results? well, I went to my profile and it says nothing about a decision and actually states that I never submitted my application. I am assuming that it is a technical problem, it looks like they just redid their site. This totally sucks because its the weekend and obviously no one would be in the office to help, guess Im just gonna have to wait until monday. -mike
  5. Hey, Im a current undergraduate SU student and grew up in the area. I applied to the public diplomacy program but haven't heard back yet. If you have any questions about SU, the city or anything just let me know. GO 'CUSE!! number 1 in the nation! (sorry, had to do it) -mike
  6. Unfortunately I didn't ask them that, at the time I wasn't planning on applying to Fulbright. sorry!
  7. Hey, I applied to the beginner program for Urdu in Lucknow, India. Anyone else? Also, does anyone know when we will be hearing? Is it dependent on the program you applied to or is everyone notified at the same time? Thanks, Mike
  8. Hey, Im not a finalist for Brazil, but I lived in Minas Gerias for a year in high school (rotary youth exchange) and spent last summer interning at the US Consulate General in Rio de Janeiro. I cant answer anything really about the Fulbright Commission in Brazil, although I know the Fulbrighters in Rio this summer worked with Pontifícia Universidade Católica. However if you have any questions about Brazilian culture, Portuguese, living in Brazil....ect just let me know! -mike
  9. Hey, Just wondering if anyone had applied/heard back for the Rangel Fellowship. According to an email they sent out a couple of weeks ago, the selection committee convened on Monday (22nd) and that applicants chosen for an interview would be notified shortly after. In my typical OCD form, I called the office today inquiring about when applicants would hear. They said that emails should have gone out yesterday and that they will make sure I am notified either today or tomorrow. So I’m slightly at concerned. I’m thinking that I didn't get it because; 1- I bet invites for interviews went out yesterday and if I didn't get one it’s probably not a good sign and 2- if I was invited to the interviews, wouldn't they have just told me over the phone? I'd appreciate any insight. Thanks!
  10. Hey, Another question. I currently have apps out to Johns Hopkins-SAIS, Syracuse-PD, and Georgetown MSFS for my masters (I will attempt to defer if I get the Fulbright as well as get into one of these programs, but I may be counting my chickens before they're hatched). My question is, since I probably won't hear from these programs until mid-March would it be a good idea to let their respective admissions offices know that I am an ETA finalist for Macau to bolster my application? or would it hurt me in the end because they might not want to offer me admission if I am just going to defer if I end up getting the Fulbright? thanks
  11. hey, ETA finalist for Macau here......anyone else? any insight into when we might be hearing? are there some programs that traditionally hear sooner than other? thanks, Mike
