  1. So... I won a couple of fellowships this year and the titles tell a good story about my research interests. I won a third fellowship that I am proud of, but now it just feels like I would be bragging to add it to an email signature that I feel is long enough. What are your thoughts on adding fellowship titles to your email sig? Thanks! [signature redacted]
  2. It is a possibility they have "unofficial" GPA cutoffs that may keep you out of the first batch of acceptances. What is your GPA after post-bacc, if you calculate it yourself? You will definitely want strong GRE scores for top programs. You will also probably want someone who can vouch for you who has an "in" on the program. Try an internship. Unfortunately, you might be tossed in the wait-list pile and never know unless you have a connection inside.
  3. Sounds like you have time, but what I would do is make contact with one or two POI's who match your interests and ask them to connect you with their colleagues or their professional associations. Since you are entering the Education field as sort of an outsider (I am in the same boat), they will probably be more understanding if you don't know a lot of people. I had a very specific research interest of my own and I was surprised how many institutions I was able to find on my own after a year of searching. In hind-sight, after a few interviews, I realized these people all know each other. So... make one connection and keep asking for more until you start to experience diminishing returns. What I do know is that some education departments do offer minors/emphases in applied anthropology and things of that nature.
  4. Oh cool, PM me sometime. I don't like to disclose identifiable information here. Yes, although I have teaching experience in public and private school settings, it is not as deep as someone who has served as faculty or something similar that I anticipate many PhD students I meet will have experienced. I am more of a quant methods person than anything. So far, I see myself just applying quant methods in some sort of industry setting so I was looking for more education-related applications.
  5. I recently got a very good offer from a PhD in Education program and am seriously considering it as my best option. It is a career change, focusing on quantitative research methods. I am passionate about this track, but not familiar with the lay of the land in Ed departments. Really, what I am curious about is what your focuses are in education and what kinds of non-professor jobs y'all are looking forward to?
