It depends on your program and which campus your classes would be on. If you are downtown I would live in south park, it's an under a mile walk to campus through town.

You just have shit coming at you from all sides. I had 130 cases, my boss said I wasn't doing enough but kept giving me work, my clients either wanted to see me every week or not at all. And it paid very little for a full time college educated position. It is what drove me to making the decision to go back to school -

I worked in a case worker position directly out of undergrad, it was hell -

Thanks for the vote of confidence! Also glad I'm not the only one who keeps a running list of books to read -

Yeah I don't recommend it, I applied for a summer program teaching literature in Cincinnati in hopes to be able to relocate soon -

@Need Coffee in an IV I finished undergrad last may and I miss it sooooo much, not the classes but my friends. Realistically I'm looking back at it and seeing it better than it actually was, because I'm in a less than ideal situation living with my parents this year. Words cannot describe how ready I am to move out again -

I have friends, but only two of them live in the same state as me . Definitely been missing my undergrad social life this year -

My Mom made a facebook post very prematurely after I got my first interview back in January, it was embarassing -

I spent my gap year working as a caseworker, don't recommend it because it's hard work and very frustrating, but the entry level jobs typically only require a bachelors in a human services related field.

My POI was Professor Burdick-Will, educational inequality in urban settings is my main research interest. -
I had a specific concentration in mind so I googled "urban sociology phd" and then read the profiles of the professors in the programs at various schools and found professors doing research on topics that aligned with my research goals. I also looked through the ranked list and just looked at the department websites.

@pi515 I had one recommendation from a sociology professor, my other two were from spanish/latin american studies professors. I've gotten into two programs so far, have an interview at another, and am waitlisted for funding at another. Some schools simply haven't notified yet so unfortunately it's just a waiting game until March. -

It is definitely hilarious, fortunately they are nowhere near my top choice so if they reject me for being an idiot I won't be crushed -

Not one of my top choices but still not a good feeling. At least the email told me I'm a qualified candidate, they just haven't secured funding for me. I am going crazy waiting to hear from UT Austin though, they sent out results around this time last year and no one has heard anything from them yet.
