Aaaaand I'm under the bus.

Hahaha! I would totally take a Wait List to Brown over an acceptance to nowhere. Your reality is way better than your caffeine deprived fiction. Congrats!
-
Rad! I'm presenting a paper today and I quote him in it. I want to make sure I don't butcher his name. I realized I've been pronouncing it my head as if it were a french name. I was way off target.
-
Thanks!
-
Then where did you actually get accepted?!
-
I could have been happy at Fordham but the other programs that I've been accepted to are a better fit for my broad interests. Right now Villanova, Penn State, Vanderbilt, and Emory have my attention. Stony Brook is not out of the running, though. Campus visits will be crucial for the final decision.

Another pronunciation question (maybe you Johns Hopkins admits can help). How do you pronounce "Hent de Vries". Is it "vreez" or 'Vry". or "Vree". I don't know the first thing about Dutch phonetics.

Welcome and Congrats!

That makes sense, I don't blame them. I'm just living on adjunct slave wages and preparing to move across the country. Bleh.

I went Fordham's online portal to formally decline their offer and I noticed that, had I decided to accept, I would be required to pay a $330 admissions deposit by April 15. Is this the case for all programs? That's a fat chunk of cash to shell out unexpectedly. If this process wasn't costly enough

OMGWOOT!! Notre Dame wants your brains! (so does Patrick Bateman )

@MentalEngineer, @perpetuavix, and @currentphilgrad thanks for the feedback. It may have not made it easier to find this information but at least now I know I'm not missing some crucial resource that everyone else is privy to.

Does anyone have an efficient way of comparing the placement rates at different programs? They publish recent placement on their websites but that doesn't give much info (e.g. when did the student actually graduate? Have they been floating around in adjunct limbo for years? And if these placement stats are, in fact, referring to people who graduated the same year they were placed, how many others graduated and didn't get placed?). I also checked philjobs.org to see recent appointments. Not very helpful. Unless you do your Ph.D. at Toronto. Then you're set.

GIRRRRRRLLLLLL. I just can't...I just don't...it's all so....WHO ARE YOU??? We've never met and your success is my success #ProudPlatonicLove

YES YES YES!! I am unbelievably happy for you. And so is he...

I'm curious about Boston College. One reported acceptance via snail mail, no rejections or waitlists (that we know of). Am I right about this or did I miss something?
-
Actually, yes! David Rondel is on my thesis committee. I didn't realize Allen was Rory's student. @MVSCZAR yours is way cooler than mine. But being so few removes from The Martin Heidegger also means you can't be trusted

Robert Brandom gave a lecture in my department today on Pragmatism and German Idealism. I'm not at all fluent in those areas (despite having read a considerable amount of Kant and Hegel and a tiny bit of Rorty and James) but it was an amazing experience to see him speak. For anyone going to Pitt, you're in good hands. (p.s. I realized i'm only three degrees of separation from Richard Rory. Rorty was Brandom's disseration advisor at Princeton, Brandom was Chris William's dissertation advisor at Pitt, and Williams is my professor/mentor/favorite person ever.

Who is your favorite philosopher? What was your favorite reading?

Kierkegaard's Fear & Trembling has gotten me through some shit. -
Dear, @DontGetMeSartred. Let me first say that your name is hilarious. Let me also say thank you for sharing Terayama's words. And finally, CONGRATU-FUCKING-LATIONS! You get one of these...

Stanford, Stanford, Stanford, YALE, Stanford, Stanford, Stanford, YALE. Yale, Yale, Yale, STANFORD, Yale, STANFORD, Yale. I thought maybe if we shout the name every once in a while it would help. Also, I didn't apply to Stanford. That's just for you @Siegfried42

Julian Wuerth notified me of the initial acceptance but my point of contact since has been the admin, Elisabeth Fiss.

Wow, thank you. I do wonder why they would accept me if that's the case? There are no other faculty at Vanderbilt that are obvious matches for my research interests. Without Guenther and Oliver, Vanderbilt doesn't make much sense for me in light of my SoP. I will do some reconnaissance work. If they aren't possible dissertation directors then this is a very different game.

I also learned 'Shadenfreude' studying for the GRE! Much to my dismay, it never showed up on the actual test. Thanks for your kind words. I'm pulling for you with UO--Good luck!
