  1. Speaking of visits, looks like UCSB just announced their new admit day. Anyone else going? I know there were a couple of UCSB admits on this forum...
  2. Gosh, too bad you weren't IR! Oh well, I suppose any decliners are tangentially good news for me. Nevertheless, thanks for the update! Have fun in Evanston.
  3. They're on Spring Break. I wouldn't expect anything until next week.
  4. Ugh, sorry to hear that. Based on our past few posts, Brown made a timely announcement. Although not the one I'm sure you were hoping for.
  5. Oops, I meant 'stragglers' as in those schools I'm waiting to hear back from - not posters!
  6. I would submit that we'll hear from a number of departments today. I know a couple of stragglers will be out on Spring Break next week and guessing they'll make some announcements before leaving.
  7. I would guess that Notre Dame wouldn't make any further decisions until next week considering they're on Spring Break this week.
  8. Kesk13 - Way to go! And thanks for the update! USC's decision has been plaguing me.
  9. Interesting... Mine says "We are currently reviewing your application."
  10. Keller65 - LOL! I hereby nominate this post as the most poetic yet on Grad Cafe. Haha, love it!
  11. Interestingly, most of the other social science departments do in fact publish their placements. I found that a small percentage of their students have landed jobs at top-rate schools, i.e. Ivies. My professor responded that it may be a result of the ability of CUNY students to attend courses within NYC's academic consortium. Students might be able to get a Columbia/NYU professor to sit on their committee and obviously assist with placement. Of course, this is just my professor's theory. The fact that the poly sci dept doesn't track its placements remains a serious concern.
  12. Form letter received via USPS... Not sure what to think of the email they sent you. If you haven't received a rejection it might be positive. As I'm fond of saying, 'no news is good news'!
  13. That's actually the very reason I didn't apply to CUNY!! Before applying I spoke with Joe Rollins and asked about placement records. He was quite churlish and had "no idea" why the department doesn't track placements. The experience was such a turn-off.
  14. Congrats to you as well! I just received a follow-up from Glasgow. He said only a select few received financial awards. (You're apparently one of the chosen ones!) The majority of stipends/TAships will be determined after the April 15th deadline. Nevertheless, most students do receive some sort of funding. He also said he's organizing the new admit day in early April. We'll be notified soon. If so, will you be attending?
  15. Received official rejection from American (SIS) today.
  16. I'm still waiting on what are presumably rejections from UCLA, Columbia WashU, and NYU. We also haven't heard from the DC caucus, i.e. GW, G-Town, and American. Above all, I'm still waiting on USC - the deadline was Dec 1 and I know several of us still haven't heard anything!
  17. Accepted to UCSB. Received a personal email this morning from the DGS, Professor Glasgow. Unclear about funding. He said my official package is en route via mail. At least I now have options!
  18. Sorry ashtangi, I fear most guests of this forum are for PhD programs and can't offer much insight. i would anticipate that those in the professional forum would provide much more info.
  19. Damn dude, I'm rooting for your first acceptance. I'll f-ing toast to that!
  20. I would build on lifesurfer's comment in terms of options. NYU is a great school, but definitely visit and weigh other alternatives before making your final decision. Seriously consider such options if you can get similar funding at a comparable school. Then again, my perspective may be tainted having already acquired over $100k in student loans!
  21. In terms of safety, you'll be fine. Its a great area. In terms of affordability, it'll be difficult to manage. You'll likely have to live further away (i.e. Brooklyn) if you plan on surviving on stipend alone.
  22. I assume everyone who applied to Cornell received the "Second Field Request" from Tina Slater today? What's the deal with it? My sense is that if there are other departments which one might be interested in applying she'll forward the documentation?
  23. Sorry to hear that. Out of curiosity, did you receive the rejection via email - and if so - was it mass or personalized? UPDATE: Ugh, never mind. I just received my own rejection.
