  1. Interesting development... While I've also received several USC pamphlets in the mail, one of which concerned financial aid, I have not received an email to this effect. Hopefully this is a good sign for you! Was it from POIR or the College of LAS?
  2. I'm still confused. Is this the "Meet USC" event that's listed throughout their calendar? How do we know its specifically for POIR? Regardless, I got frustrated and sent a note to Alex asking what's up?! BTW, I too have received several pamphlets about the university! Screw that - at this point I just want admissions!
  3. Shere Khan - How/when did you receive notification from NYU?! I know a bunch of folks around here still haven't heard anything and we're suffocating with anxiety! BTW, yes, definitely take NYU over Florida. Of course it will depend on your field, but generally speaking this would be a prudent decision.
  4. Yep. Received the email and sadly the concomitant rejection.
  5. Hey now, keep your chin up. Its not over till its over!
  6. Blankets, was your email also from Prof Johnson?
  7. Wow, within the past hour I received notifications that I've been wait-listed at both Minnesota and Notre Dame!! According to their emails, I've been "ranked very high" on Minnesota's wait list and placed on a "very short" wait list at Notre Dame. But I'm sure every other applicant has been assured the same. Ugh, so close but so far away... P.S. Natofone, my UMN notification was a personal email, not a mass email.
  8. Sorry, no insight in terms of PEG. I wouldn't want to speculate and mislead you. Based on others in this forum, it appears that degree program has already made their decisions. I can convey one piece of information about PEG if you're ever interested in reapplying in the future. The number one characteristic PEG's adcomm assesses in candidates is whether an applicant can demonstrate that the program is a good fit. Since its not entirely an econ nor poly sci program, the adcomm wants to be convinced that an applicant can only benefit from a hybrid program such as PEG. An applicant also needs to further demonstrate why an econ / poly sci PhD is alone insufficient for their academic objectives. .... That's everything I know about PEG!
  9. I'm currently a masters student at HKS and spoke with my professor who is on the adcomm. I can rely two facts that she mentioned: (1) there was a historic number of PhD applicants this year with a +44% increase; (2) HKS conducts three separate rounds of admissions, during which they offer admissions to the best candidates and rejections to those less qualified. At this point I don't believe they have made any decisions. She also noted that it appears to be extremely competitive this year. That's all I know as an 'insider'. Hope this helps?!
  10. Based on your signature block I'm assuming Florida is your first admit? Well congratulations!!
  11. Thanks for the update. I share your unease - I'm not sure how to interpret the delay.
  12. mn06556 claimed acceptance a while ago. Apparently he was accepted for some special fellowship. I can tell you that my online status still indicates that my application is being reviewed. I'm anxious to hear from them. They seem to be taking longer than any other school!
  13. Ditto 'amandaaimeparis' above. I received my PITT rejection last week. Meanwhile, I'm still waiting to hear from UCLA, but can only assume it too will be a rejection.
  14. I personally know someone who has been rejected and believed someone on this forum as announced an acceptance. I personally haven't heard anything. Not sure what that means... I'm extremely anxious since its my top choice! Ugh!
  15. I'm presuming that Columbia's silence is due to sequential rounds of admissions. For example, I know Harvard Kennedy School's adcomm convenes three separate rounds. Therefore, in this case no news is good news. Your application may have lived to survive another day of consideration... That's at least my theory.
  16. Sadly, I was rejected. Received via email.
  17. Just received unofficial word that I was accepted at BU. Its without funding, but at least I got that first admit under my belt. If all else fails I suppose I could always rack-up more debt - after all, its the American way!
  18. Hey now, keep your chin up. You've gotta assume (or hope) that they have more than one round of admits!
  19. Wow, congrats!! How did you receive word, email or USPS?
  20. Were those USC acceptances for POIR? I got the sense they may have been for SPPD since there are a number of policy gurus in this forum. Nevertheless, it is a little disconcerting that USC is taking so long. Not sure if they're intensely scrutinizing applicants or simply a matter of a slow administrative process. BTW, how is the area around campus?
  21. Not sure if it concerns any in this forum, but I'm particularly anxious to hear from U-dub and USC (POIR). I'm also wondering about Notre Dame.
  22. Its certainly a weird position to be in! I personally haven't heard from a couple of schools that I know have announced both acceptances and rejections. I keep telling myself that 'no news is good news.' I'm assuming that they have several rounds of admissions and they're narrowing down the list?
  23. Sorry, I don't know the details with Belkin. When checking out UCSB this past Fall I received a note from Rauchhaus that said "we have lost both Belkin and McDermott to other schools." I did confirm with McDermott who is now at Brown. Since I applied to UCSB I hope you're right and Belkin is only gone temporarily!
  24. I doubt I could offer anything in terms of assessing your chances of admissions, but certainly wish you the best of luck! I too am anxiously awaiting to hear from them. I'm in IR with an emphasis on formal modeling of international security. Not sure of my own chances since Ron Krebs is really the only security guy there. Last email I read from the department indicated that they wouldn't be making any decisions until March. Is that your understanding?
