  1. Congratulations! I'm wishing you the best luck moving on to the next round. I'm sorry about your JLPT score, I have yet to take it since my school no longer offers Japanese so I'm doing a lot of self study. The JLPT can be quite unforgiving though, from what I've heard.
  2. Sadly I was rejected for Japanese. Any Japanese semi-finalists? My friend was rejected too; ironically we were both Gilman recipients last year too.
  3. For some background, I'm a senior undergrad student looking to apply to graduate programs (Both domestic and international) soon. I'm also 20 (went in college at 17, graduating a year early) and I'm struggling with the fear that I may not get into some programs due to my age? I know it's an unrealistic thought, but it can be a little uncomfortable looking at graduate schools to go and finding out everyone is at least 5+ years my senior. I have no problems interacting with people older than me, I just worry that I'll be seen as being too young for graduate school, especially with some professors here recommending students take time off from undergrad and grad. Anyone here with any advice or discussion to add? I'm a little new to the site, so let me know if my thread should be moved or is a bit of a time waster.
  4. Nothing yet I'm afraid, but I am eagerly checking my phone and wishing for the best (for all of us).
  5. Neither actually. I received the Gilman for last Spring (2015) and spent a whole semester (about 4 months) in Japan with it. It was nerve wracking but I was so glad when I received it.
  6. Good grief, this is taking a really long time. I submitted my application two months ago - I heard back much faster and more timely with the Gilman (which I did receive).
  7. DC government is open today, so let's hope today is the day!
  8. Likewise, I found a girl who did the CLS in Japan and made a video about it and it really helped me feel less nervous about the program. CLS blogs and vlogs are very helpful imo.
  9. Fingers crossed for everyone! Anyone here applied for Japanese? And does anyone plan on doing a blog while they're abroad? I'm interested in doing a small one.
  10. Replying to say I have also joined to post about this. I'm applying for the first time for Japanese. I was a Gilman recipient last Spring 2015 so I'm hoping that really helps my chances of getting it. Best of luck everyone!
