Hi everyone! I'm still stuck deciding between programs (IHEID VS Georgetown VS Denver) and I figured I would try my luck on this forum:)

Are there any current students or alumni in the Political Science/International Relations who can tell me a little about the strengths and weaknesses of the program? Advice they would give to people who are about to go into the program? Anything they discovered after they started?

    Thanks for the help:)

(if you know of a better place to post or people to contact, please let me know!)

Hey @Lolothefirecat. As for the MIA Programme, the current class representative showed up on our Facebook subgroup to answer our questions. I would suggest to reach out to the IR/PS current class representative, ours seems very resourceful!

I have a quick question for anyone who confirmed their decision to attend. I just did that a moment ago, and this is what shows up. Is this normal? How am I supposed to find out when they will officially acknowledge my confirmation? Capture.JPG

Hey @ilmk92, congrats on your admission! It is totally normal. The status of your application will change from Admitted to Confirmed once IHEID receives your pre-application fee of CHF 1000.

@taeyeon That's interesting! I thought they gave priority to students with scholarships too! Now, it makes more sense :)

Are any of you going to the welcoming day?

I was planning to, but I just found out that my brother is gonna graduate on April 5th and he naturally has priority over the Admitted Student Day. :D

    What about you guys?

    @Mangrovia I received this message:

" Thank you for your request.

We will contact you back at the next availability.

       Sincerely Yours

       CSTB Team

NB: Copy of your information attached". ( Followed by the documents that I had uploaded )

Apart from this, I have not received any kind of information from their side...What about you, did you get any information?

I haven't applied yet actually, but I plan on doing it next week!

  5. Hey guys! Haven't checked the forum for a while, but here I am. First off, congrats to @Kate_rina, @ARadiata and @RoyaleGVa on your admissions! It'll be my pleasure to meet you all in Geneva in a few months! ;)

As far as the Student House application goes, as most of you, I did not get any room (plus, I haven't gotten any scholarship either, so their selection process makes even less sense now). I was waiting to get their answer before starting to look for and apply to other housing solutions, but apparently you are all way ahead of me and I have to catch you up! Which accommodations have you guys applied to so far?

And @taeyeon, yes, I believe that sharing a flat would be a pretty smart move of us, but I am afraid you should be on site to do so, as many landlords want to meet you in person before agreeing on renting you their place! As I told you a couple of weeks ago, I'll be probably going to the Admitted Students Day on April 5th, have a look around and let you guys know.

Okay then I will call them tomorrow and see what's happens. Much thanks. Seriously, I really got worried when my status wasn't changing.

My pleasure, @kotsa. You shouldn't worry at all. I mean, it's not in their interest to cut you out for such bureaucracy-related reasons. They admitted you 'cause they want you. Be positive, I'm sure they will be very cooperative tomorrow! Keep us in the loop. Good night! :)

@Mangrovia did u pay by credit card or bank transfer? Mine was by bank transfer and I hope that's not what is causing the delay.:(

I paid by credit card and yes, I'm pretty sure the bank transfer takes longer to be processed. However, I believe that paying the fee before the deadline is what really matters, and that's what you did. Why don't you give a call to IHEID tomorrow? If you get some credit on your Skype account, international calls are way cheaper!

    Heya guys,

I want to know how long it took after the payment of your pre registration fees for your status to change to "confirmed".

I made my payment since Monday but it has still not changed. I have also send a mail to the institute but haven't received any reply or response yet.

    Thanks.

I paid the fee on Friday and had my status changed on Monday. As long as the status of your invoice is paid (and no longer issued), I guess you're fine though. Plus, I'm sure the Institute will get back to you before the weekend aka by tomorrow afternoon! ;)

    Hi guys,

I just wanna know if anyone have been able to find out the number of people that share a kitchen and wash rooms in the various hostels.

And also how far you guys are with the pre registration fee as the dead line is almost due.

    Safe.

Hey @kotsa. I paid the pre-registration fee last Friday, and my status changed from Admitted to Confirmed this morning.

  10. I have been admitted to the MIA Programme without scholarship (damn it!). Here is my story in a nutshell.

After high school, I took a gap year, which I spent between the UK and France to improve my English proficiency and learn French from scratch. Got a BA in International Relations and Diplomacy in Italy, did an exchange semester in the US, graduated Summa Cum Laude. Undertook a couple of summer voluntary placements abroad (mainly NGOs and charitable organizations) and took part in a MUN in Belgrade, Serbia during my undergrad. I decided to invest the year between my BA and MA in two internships: the current one with a media platform in Brussels, Belgium, the second one at the Embassy of France in Rome, Italy, starting next April. Plus, I uploaded a HORRIBLE portrait picture onto my application, so you all can make it! ;)

Hi Everyone! :D I have been accepted to the MIA with a partial scholarship! I am so happy and looking forward to meet you all. Regarding accomodation, I will try to get a room with the insitute. Do you know how many chances there are to get a room there?

Hi @Fedora, and congrats again on your admission to the MIA Programme - I don't know about you guys, but I haven't fully realized it yet! B)

According to IHEID Website, the main criteria used to decide who will get a room in the Student House are:

    1. Geographical distance of the student's residence at the time of admission

    2. Academic results

    3. Scholarship application

Now, as I said before, I live pretty close to Geneva, at least compared to people coming from the United States or Asia, so I am pretty sure I'm not in a favorable position in this sense. However, I don't know if by scholarship application they mean that they tend to give priority to those who got the scholarship or to admits who didn't. I, personally, didn't.

P.S. I read you spent quite some time in Italy and I bet you perfectly speak Italian, don't you? It'll be fun! :D

Just received a mail from the student house asking me to apply for a room latest by 30th January and want to know if anyone else has.

@taeyeonIn my country it takes 3 to 4 months to get a swiss student visa and I think that's the case in most countries too. Waiting for 90 days before applying might delay your arrival (including the 3 weeks French course) so I think you should visit the swiss embassy in your country and inquire.

    Best.

Got the e-mail and already applied (just out of curiosity, because, again, I am pretty sure I won't get any accommodation due to geographical vicinity; plus, I don't believe it is the cheapest solution anyway). The application is REALLY quick. You just have to fill in a form with your three preferences, save them, and you're done. They said notifications will be released by February 15th.

I think one of my greatest concerns right now is accommodation, as I've read that it is really difficult to find housing  I was even thinking to find a place in a neighbour city in France, which seems to be cheaper than Geneva. I know it is still early, but if anyone has information about it, I would be more than glad to hear it from you :) Thank you very much and looking forward to meet you all in Geneva ;)

The idea of finding a place in the closest French city is not as bad as it might sound, and it's actually pretty popular among those who work/study in Geneva. I don't have any precise info about it as of now, but it's something I was planning to look into in the next couple of days. Let's keep each other in the loop! ;)

Was student housing information sent out this time last year? I somehow remember it as being in March, along with all the regular deadline notifications. Maybe I'm mistaken, but it's still early so we shouldn't worry too much.

@LuciaPantigoso95 I'd recommend looking at the GISA student guide. I'm sure we can get a spot at one of the dorms on there, though I personally prefer the Institute's own dorm and maybe RUI ;)

@Mangrovia On the upside, you'll have the advantage of being able to go there in person and scout your accommodation before moving in! Or at least I hope you'll get to, and maybe give us intel as well, haha.

I feel like the GISA Student Guide is pretty useful but non that updated - as the rest of their website actually. As @LuciaPantigoso95, the accommodation is a big concern for me, too, though I guess we can find something cheaper than CHF 650/month for the shared apartment w/ shared bathroom in IHEID Student House, can't we?

I was thinking of heading to Geneva for the Admitted Student Day on April 5th actually. So yes, it'll be my pleasure to be your undercover agent for a couple of days!

P.S. Did you guys get any e-mail from IHEID today about your Financial Aid Application? I got one saying that their decision was available on my follow-up module, but anything has really chanced to be honest. My request was refused on Friday, and it's still refused today. Damn it! <_<

Heya again @Mangrovia ;) I hope the others will be joining us here soon!

How're you feeling about paying the pre-registration fee by January 30th? I emailed IHEID asking if an extension is possible just so it's not all a big rush, but if they say no, I'm fine with that too. I mean I did initially agree to paying it on time in the application conditions. Then comes the housing, visa, and French language issues... so much to do! Haha, looking forward to it though.

I am actually fine with that. I mean, I wouldn't mind an extension (until April 15th maybe), but I was psychologically ready for the January 30th deadline in the fortunate case of successful admission.  ;)

My biggest concern is now finding new funding sources/scholarship opportunities, and I'll e-mail IHEID to get ANY advice they might have in store for me. The bright side is having eight months of something to get everything ready. As far as housing goes, I haven't started the application for accommodation, but I am pretty sure I am out of the game, as I live 500km away from Geneva (and one of the three criteria to determine who will receive a room in the Student House is the geographical distance of a student's residence at the time of admission.)

@kotsa I was accepted into the MIA program. ^_^ And also, thanks @Maeva!

@Mangrovia and @Fedora I hope we'll get to see each other in fall! So are you guys accepting your offers or considering on waiting? This question goes for @AAAAAAAA too. Also I think I've seen last year that those who were admitted created a separate thread to talk about all the things we need to navigate, maybe we should consider that...

Meanwhile I hope that those who are still under consideration will get an update in their status, I think if you were deferred to the waiting list it should say so right? Perhaps on Monday you'll hear back! I noticed that my admission letter was actually dated December 18, if only I could've found out back then :P

I will definitely accept the offer, IHEID has always been my top choice by far. And yes, the separate thread for the admits is a great idea. I'll do that in a minute! ;)
