  1. Maybe try emailing them? Often current grad students have their emails listed on the program website. I feel like that would be a lot less stalkerish than FB messages, and probably happens to them fairly often.
  2. @piglet33 Fair enough. Time to stop making excuses and start getting up early and doing things! I feel you on the lazy morning, though. I got up a couple hours before I had to be at work and instead of planning more lessons or being productive, I drank a lot of coffee and finished the book I'm reading. Not unproductive, but not especially productive either.
  3. @piglet33 No, I appreciate it! The weather's unseasonably warm this week, so I've been walking to and from work when I can, which is great. Exercise itself isn't a chore, just getting myself started is. Once I'm working out, I'm like "why was I resisting this? This is great!" because making my body do things/seeing progress is really satisfying, but dragging myself out of the house after a day of teaching can be really hard. @Neist Yeah, from what I'd heard, Oklahoma is just a big flat plain, but that's obviously not the case! I moved from the city to a tiiiiiiiiiny little place in the mountains this year, so I'm learning to appreciate all the things you can do on/in the mountains. Because there's really not much else here haha. In other news, I just found out I'm going to be in one of my favorite places in the world (Granada, Spain) when my decisions start coming out, so at least I'll be somewhere I love either to celebrate good news or to cry into my tapas over bad news.
  4. @Neist Wow, that's really beautiful!
  5. @piglet33 Good point. I really like swimming and yoga, but I should give lifting a try. I'm living in the perfect place for hiking, so I've been doing that, and skiing a couple times a week. I also do human tower building (it's a local sport, and the weirdest thing ever, but I love it), but I really need to start working out more regularly (ie every day).
  6. @piglet33 I should join a gym...there's one near my house, but the pool's closed for renovations, and I'm not a fan of high impact workouts.
  7. Buffy the Vampire Slayer and cooking complicated meals. Or obsessive cleaning. That's what I've been doing, at least. Best of luck!!!
  8. @gingin6789 I was drinking rum and juice with my roommates at 11 this morning. One of them's having relationship problems and we didn't have to work today, so we drank. No judgement. @passenger47 @piglet33 I wish waiting made me want to go to the gym...my apartment's super clean now, though! I'm a nervous cleaner.
  9. Leaving your husband must be awful, but those campus visits/interviews sound incredible! I just realized that, if I get accepted anywhere, I'm going to have to choose my school without ever actually setting foot on any of the campuses...
  10. I want to believe that he's satirizing our political system. Unfortunately, I don't think that's the case.
  11. I sometimes do that with onions still, but sautéed. Before Holes, though, I didn't even think I liked onions haha.
  12. CONGRATULATIONS!
  13. I think it's kind of cute (for lack of a better word)! You're really dedicated to/excited about your work! Also, I feel the same way about my applications. My writing sample was my undergrad thesis, and it took me close to two and a half years to write.
  14. @Pink Fuzzy Bunny Woah, you have no idea how much better that made me feel. Thank you!
  15. @piglet33 At least we know we're not alone haha.
  16. @piglet33 Do itttttt! It's such a good movie! Or, better, read the book! It's one of those that's even better when you read it as an adult (in my opinion, at least).
  17. @Neist But now I'm obsessing over it, and how I overestimated my abilities, and I'm not qualified for anything!
  18. Isn't it the worst? When the implication is "Uhhhh, no, you're definitely not going to cut it." Ugh, it's awful. As a result, I'm afraid I thought too highly of my abilities when I applied to schools...I'm so worried I'm not going to get in anywhere, and then I have no idea what I'm going to do with myself. I'm not qualified for anything!
  19. I'm kind of the opposite. I'm a bundle of nervous energy. Aside from the work I have to do for my job, I'm trying to read a book a week, study Catalan, work on translations, watch Bob's Burgers, go to bed early, ski, and I've cleaned the kitchen 4 times in the past 3 days, and made three complicated recipes. In short, I'm going CRAZY.
  20. That's how I felt until I got an email from one of my recommenders saying something along the lines of "it's always a good idea to apply to some safety schools." That was after all my deadlines. *cue anxious laughter bordering on tears*
  21. Holes was my sister's favorite book when we were 12. She could recite the first chapter from memory, and when the movie came out, the soundtrack was basically all we listened to haha.
  22. @gelologist Haha I've used it for baking (Nutella microwave cake is surprisingly good drunk food), but when I'm stressed/too busy to make real food, I eat a nice big spoonful. I also go for it on bread/fruit/whatever. It's surprisingly good with clementines. Also, I have no shame when it comes to things I like eating.
  23. Just over 6.5 pounds of Nutella right there! Of course, it's not the only thing I'm eating, but I've put a considerable dent in it since submitting my applications haha.
  24. @rhombusbombus Duolingo's great for practice/maintaining level! I also learned a lot by reading books I was already familiar with (bonus: it helps a lot with spelling). I actually think I have a PDF of Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone in Spanish on my computer somewhere if you want it!
