I've spent over an hour trying to shorten my SOP for my first choice school. Taken it from 4 pgs to 2...and three lines floating on a third page. Uni's site states "no more than two pages double spaced" and I have steam coming out my ears. UGH.

Yea - no it's no fun, but they the time you shrink it down it does make it more "readable" for others. One of my applications required a 10 page statement. It was enough to drive me to drink. One of my favorite topics to talk about is myself - but that was a little excessive. I can't imagine that anyone will want to read a 10 page paper on how interesting I think i am.

Hi
my gpa is 3.6 and I am a law graduate. Wish to apply to GWU for the international affairs program. I'm skeptical about my GRE scores. What if I can't get a score more than 300, do I still stand a chance of getting into Elliot School? I have 5 years of work experience, I have internship experience as law-clerk with High Court Judges and I secured a distinction class in my undergrad.

Yes - I think you've got a good shot. Many programs are seeking people. I have a MA in a Diplomacy/International Relations program that would often take leftovers from GWU. My school has had to decrease their admissions criteria because many programs (including GWU) has had to do the same in order to get students. 3.6 is a respectable GPA. It wouldn't hurt to get to know the director of admissions.
