  1. Has anyone heard back from Baylor? Are they going to be holding interviews? Have they held interviews? A few of my peers have shared that they have 2 messages pending on their message section in the GOBAYLOR GRAD portal but that they can't open them.. Anyone else? I don't, so I don't think that is a good sign.

  2. I got wait listed at TCU!

    GPA: 3.5

    CSD GPA: 3.7

    Languages: English

Can we all share stats? If you got rejected I would really appreciate your stats too. If I don't get in I want to apply again next year.

Also if you applied to the bilingual program? Do 20 people get accepted including the bilingual track?

Who hasn't heard back from TCU?

I got that email too. It's confusing me and I wondering how y'all understood it.

I received my 1st bachelor's & I am currently earning my postbaccalaureate 2nd bachelor's degree are at the same institution. Does that mean I should only fill out the "For your most recent, degree-granting undergraduate program (BA or BS)" section with my cumulative institution GPA and ignore the "If you have taken 4 or more courses in Speech & Hearing Sciences / Communication Sciences & Disorders as part of a post baccalaureate/ prerequisite/ leveling program" section?

So, my cumulative GPA is much lower than my Communication Disorders GPA. I feel like that sorting candidates by cumulative institution GPAs may provide an unfair disadvantage or advantage depending on how many institutions they attended. If they're organizing the reported GPAs electronically and using it as a way to narrow down applicants, this reporting method may not be a very accurate representation. For example, someone that attended a different school for postbacc than their undergrad could easily have a 4.0 because it's only calculating GPA from that institution. Why institution and not major?

Does this make any sense? I'm probably waaaaaaaay overthinking this. Ugh.

Hi, you might be over thinking it. I am sure they are going to look more into it than putting our application in an excel spread sheet and sorting it from greatest to least. In example they care about your extra curricular activities, how many languages you speak, leadership opportunities you've been exposed to, clinical experiences, LOR, and many other things.

Good Morning. I'm going to through in a different slant here. I agree with the above posters.....your GPA isn't that strong (overall and in major are quite close) and your GRE's are low. But......you have done something (intentionally, accidentally??) that will help you. That is, you applied to many schools with higher acceptance rates. I am a huge proponent of trying to apply to schools with a higher acceptance rate. That's the best shot at a "safety school" (IMHO) that there is in this process.  Given that some schools are in the 7-10%, your percentages are high. I would compare your stats to these schools, and then look at the acceptance rate. The closer you are within range, at the higher acceptance schools-I think that's your best shot.  I know a lot of people on this forum put great stock in LOR and essays.....I don't. I think they can hurt you (most definitely), but I'm not convinced they can "up" an applicant too much. Again, that's just MHO!.

The stats below are from ASHA Edfind. I noticed that several schools have changed their stats since last year, so I do believe they update, but it's hard to know which cycle they are from. But it's the best info available, unless the school publishes stats on their website (I've seen a couple)

Also keep in mind Fall 2016 has had the most applicants ever.. Multiple schools mentioned it in their info sessions or webinars that they have about 100-200 applicants more than usual. In November MGH had about 650 people who had started their application on CSDCAS, I don't know how many actually submitted.

IMHO, your acceptance also highly depends on who looks at your application from the admission committee. Sometimes professors accept mainly 4.0 GPA 160 GRE students and realize their clinical skills are not strong. Second time around they accept 3.2 GPA with 145-150 GRE who show way more character in their SOP. Many schools are now adding interviews because of that...

Funding questions. How are you paying for grad school?  How much debt to expect for grad school?  What is the average non-loan financial aid award?   How do you find which schools give large amounts of funding?  When do we send in FAFSA?  How hard is it to get TA/GA positions?  How much do the pay, tuition and stipend?

For grants and scholarships search on their websites. Getting a TA/GA position is just as competitive as getting in, having undergrad research or clinical experience helps. I've also noticed grants are given based on your undergrad GPA. Look at how many credits that specific degree is and how much the school charges per credit and try to figure out how big of a loan you need. Also the city.. Many times schools are located in the downtown areas which have higher real estates rate. If you live far from campus transportation ends up being expensive.

If you can't pay out of pocket, look into a student friendly loan. Being in big debt after graduation can affect your short term goals.

But remember, each school has their own formula/point system for everything... And maybe the people who look over your application are not interested in someone who has a 4.0 GPA 160 GRE.. But they want someone with more experiences that will bring different ideas into the research/in-house practice.

  6. Hi, this forum has no specific question or concern, it has a lot. After applying, the waiting game is very hard to play.. I have generals questions and curiosities about people with past experiences and general knowledge about slp grad programs. I've read old post that have a lot of information about when schools start sending out acceptance letters and on how many rounds they hold.. Texas state has accepted and rejected people until the second week of May..

What programs did you apply to?

How many times have you applied?

What's the best advice you could give to someone who hasn't started applying? How about to someone who is applying for the third time?

    Most competitive programs?

    What's your dream school?

Do you want to get your masters where you're getting your undergrad? Why? Why not?

Programs that accept high % of applicants?

    How accurate is ASHA EdFind?

What programs are not on EdFind?

    What's your favorite food?

Do you have any questions that you see no answer to on here? Ask and I will try my best to answer.. Or someone else will :)
