  1. Well keep in touch with me and I can maybe be a resource next cycle! Good luck friend!
  2. That's wonderful news! I accepted at Irvine and am pulling up stakes for California in the fall! Hope you get in!
  3. I'm pretty certain I am California bound. All three are amazing, so it is truly not easy to decide.
  4. Admission offered from UT Austin today! After two years of rejection I have been admitted to all 3 programs I applied to. Keep on keeping on!
  5. Which schools, if you don't mind me asking? I was accepted to UC Irvine and Rice thus far and had no problem just being up front with Irvine about the counter offer from Rice. I don't think anyone will be offended if you leverage. Its how it is done.
  6. They'd be lucky to have you! You are a source of support and all around positive human being, I know that if you want a PhD, it will be there eventually. Thanks for being so cool to everyone this year.
  7. I have found that these meetings tend to be much more about fit than anything specific to your potential dissertation. They each have their own sense of community and they want to know that you will be comfortable there for the next 6 or 7 years . Good luck on your visit! Just enjoy yourself
  8. AHHHHHH! Accepted to Rice! Never imagined I could be in this position of choosing between my two dream programs. UCI vs Rice. Don't give up folks, ever!
  9. Got an unofficial acceptance to Irvine from my POI late last night! Offers to be sent out very soon! Crazy happy!
  10. I am sociocultural. Yes the classics at UC is aces. I wish you the best of luck!
  11. I'm just finishing my MA at Cincinnati now! I assume that you are a classics major but I can attest to the fact that UC is a decent place to study!
  12. So for anyone who was at UCI interview weekend last week. I was contacted by a fellow interviewee who talked to Dr. Chavez. He told them that the faculty convene this coming Tuesday and offers should be made after that. Not sure how solid this info is, but if it can help ease a little stress, figured it is worth passing it along. Hope you all are well!
  13. Nothing yet. I'm dying over here! Got a Rice interview in two weeks though!
  14. I think reaching out is fine, but be aware of the time constraints your POI might have, especially this time of year. If you are rejected, you may give it a little while before following up. But overall, keeping up the dialogue is a good idea, particularly if you intend to try again!
  15. Hi. I have to agree. I have gotten two interviews at top tier sociocultural anthropology programs this cycle, but this is my THIRD cycle. Honestly, my experience as an MA student has made me a much better candidate. Persistence is rewarded in this world and, yes, rejection is mandatory.
  16. I hope so! I'm honestly a nervous wreck. Congrats on your acceptance btw!
  17. Thank you! The interview went well! Supposed to make offers (or not) as early as this Friday. A really splendid program.
  18. I can attest to the power of a MA. I finished my BA two years ago and applied for multiple doctoral programs. They weren't even all top tier and I certainly felt in hindsight that I was grasping. I got one unfunded offer. My BA institution took pity and offered me a fully funded MA spot in our terminal masters program. I took it. Since then I have presented my research at AES, embraced the MA program and was elected president of our AGSA, and now am in Cali interviewing for a spot at UCI. Persistence and caressing rejection like an old friend make success a long game always worth engaging. Good Luck to you, you are all so good!
  19. Just from the engaging and empathetic way you carry yourself on this neurotic old site, any program would be so lucky to have you. I have felt the same disappointment you are experiencing (and no doubt I will again), you got this still.
  20. I suppose that was a poor choice of words. I have applied to two other programs. But as this is my 3rd and final cycle applying for PhDs, I am inclined to expect to accept an offer from Irvine. They have a history of excellent funding packages. Of course, they can tell me to take a walk after the interview, so it's all conjecture at this point. I have learned that there are really very few places I would want to spend 6 to whatever years and so have only applied to a small number of schools within my specialty.
