The letter I received called me a finalist. I have been in contact with a couple pois over the last year. They stated that interviewees will either be offered acceptance or placed on the waiting list by February 3rd. If offered I will immediately accept as Irvine is my top choice. Hope this clears up anything. Feel free to message me if you want to know more.
While I am maintaining an interest in material agency, I am moving on towards toxicity as a representative state for both humans and more than humans in late industrial North America. My pois are Eleana Kim and Valerie Olson.
How families of children with cochlear implants negotiate moral economies of care while fostering and conceiving of a subjunctive and even radical difference at odds, or at the very least paralleling the expectations of biopower. I use both text and photos made in collaboration with my interlocutors to get at the local/global circulation of their intimate material everyday worlds. Through this I hope to highlight how morals and biotechnology can be absorbed and rearticulated for hopeful, if uncertain, futures.
I'm scheduled to sit as a discussant on a panel but am also trying to present research at AES, which is the same weekend. If given the opportunity I would do my own research at AES again over being disscussant. Still up in the air!
Just submitted final calendar of deadlines to my thesis committee for approval. Dealing with it, but the PhD application process is far too drawn out for one completing a thesis. Hope you all are well.
I am pretty sure its worked out. I was asked to email my writing sample directly to Leo Chavez and he received it. I'm just glad they reached out! Could have tossed it aside, I suppose. I submitted things in the same order as you, so I am not sure what the issue was, perhaps clerical error?
Anyone else who is applying to Irvine had issues with them getting the separately emailed writing sample? Got a request from Tom Boellstorf to resubmit or risk having an incomplete application. Stressful.
Having kids is helping me to forget about the apps I've submitted. Little heathens (loves of my life), keeping things in perspective. Hope all are well.
Hi everyone,
Third time applying for PhDs. I actually turned down one doctoral admission two years ago in favor of a funded MA which I will finish up this year. I have to say, it was a great decision and has positioned me to apply to schools I would not have thought myself competitive for in previous cycles. Anyway, good luck folks, and if anyone is applying to Irvine, Rice, or UT Austin, hit me up!
