  1. Aww, thanks. I'm worried it's going to seem disingenuous/tacked-on because that work is so far from my other interests. But maybe I should go for it.
  2. Waitlisted for UVA. I had a moment of deep horror when I received an email from Elizabeth Barnes and realized I never mentioned that one of my primary research interests is disability studies. I'd been generally advised not to mention that interest in my statements (because it's far apart from my other pursuits) but I don't know why I didn't bring it up for this specific case. I mean, her work on that was among the reasons I was interested in the department. A good example, perhaps, of why sleep deprivation is bad for PhD applications. Still, I'm pretty jazzed to be considered at all.
  3. I hope so; it sounded like their letters weren't in the mail yet.
  4. One of those is mine. I got an email at around 10:00am yesterday (Monday), but it contained limited information, as the official letter is apparently on its way. I'm arranging to talk to my contact about the program on Friday, but all I know from the wording so far is that some sort of stipend might be involved. (Super stoked....)
  5. It said they were very impressed with my portfolio and I was on a waiting list for a fellowship, which she would hopefully tell me more about soon. I read it as being waitlisted before showing it to my references/our DGS; there wasn't anything particularly unusual about it, so it wouldn't surprise me if we got the same message.
  6. Ah, I think I understand. Thanks.
  7. Ah, this thread clears up a lot. I got an email from Indiana's HPS department that was very positive but disconcertingly ambiguous. When I showed the message to my letter-writers, they all interpreted it as saying I was accepted, but on a waiting list for a fellowship. The DGS didn't clarify when I responded, though I didn't push on the matter, since she said she'd be sending more info. I heard from her on the 2nd, so I guess I can infer from the information here that it wasn't an acceptance. What a letdown.
