  1. Woot! Do you know anyone else who's going? I hear it's like a 4 person cohort.
  2. So any further decisions? Where is everyone tentatively going?
  3. Anyone hear from U of T for their PhD programs yet?
  4. Well, had I used the casual second person "tu" to address him, and he agreed, that would be quite the feat.... I actually spoke at length about my research and other colleagues of him i know and asked about doing a PhD with him.
  5. Today, being in Paris, I thought, "Why not get coffee with Bruno Latour?" So I sent him an email, realized I had accidentally used the informal 2nd person with him, recalled it, corrected it and sent it again. Mildly terrified I would have single handedly destroyed my STS career before it even started!
  6. Just accepted my offer at York formally. Stipend is ~$22.5k. @Logik Did you get an email? Any further funding information?
  7. From what I know, rather than admitting people for an MA specifically U of T IHPST often accepts all applicants (MA or otherwise) as PhD candidates, so a strong research statement is still great!
  8. Where did you go to school? Did you have good reference and research statement? Sometimes those things go a far way. Good luck
  9. Don't they accept like 20 people? I'd say you're chances are good compared to most STS programs
  10. Thought I saw some acceptances on the results board a few days ago. Good luck!
  11. Does this mean basically, that nonelite institutions are more receptive to progressive research?
  12. I'm really fond of how positive this forum is about rejection! I mean that sincerely. On the other hand, I'm realizing that York STS is nothing to scoff at either. It receives nearly 40-100 apps year for PhD and accepts 4. Take that Cornell!
  13. Finally got rejected by Cornell. Such peace.
  14. Sent in the email, very measured and super polite. I figured at this point if I wasn't an outright asshole, this would perhaps not make much of a difference in their decision I was probably rejected anyway, I don't see why the assistant would hesitate so much to tell me.
  15. Both. Admissions coordinator wasn't able to tell me anything, and portal doesn't show any changes.
  16. Judgement call in what sense? I am just hoping I'm not out of line. I contacted the admissions coordinator and since she wasn't able to let me know anything I figured I'd give Pinch a shot...
  17. Update on the Cornell situation: I contacted the graduate assistant and the only thing she could tell me is that decisions went out in the last few days, and that if I haven't received any correspondence from them, I should check the ApplyWeb status (which is still futile). Now I'm getting worried that somehow I didn't receive this -- which is bizarre because nothing was found anywhere -- from spam, junk etc, unless I simply just didn't receive the email, which is just unlikely and absurd. Do you think I should contact the Graduate Director, Prof. Pinch? From what I understand, he is the one that sent out the decisions?
  18. Well...I'm still hopeful then! Still haven't heard back from Cornell OR Chicago's CHSS program though apparently they did send out an acceptance last week...not sure what to make of anything but also super nervous to contact Cornell again because I just called them last week...
  19. Also still no news from Cornell. Clearly they are fucking with me
  20. So this may perhaps make my IRL identity obvious but I'm a masters student at York (not STS) and Aryn is my thesis supervisor... I already submitted my masters topic in that panel I assume you're currently in STS? I know many PhD students there
  21. @Logik out of curiosity, what's your research on? Do you have a supervisor yet? I'm interested in biosocial entanglements, and will likely be working with Aryn Martin, Natasha Myers and Ernst Hamm.
  22. I also just got accepted to York STS! Congrats!
  23. Thanks! Alternatively, I was told that the ApplyWeb page would also show admission decisions - mine just says "submitted". Can anyone confirm whether the ApplyWeb status shows a change from the "submitted" now that apparently decisions are sort of out?
