  1. I just talked to Cornell on the phone re: my application status. Turns out the decisions have apparently been made but not everything has been sent out yet. I don't know how potentially waitlisted applicants are affected by this, but I was told to get in touch if I had not heard back anything by Friday.
  2. I saw the rejections on the board and checked my email while I was in line with my credit card company...let's just say I nearly shat my pants. Alas, I have heard nothing as of yet from the good folks at Cornell....maybe the rejections will come through just when I depart for my internship tomorrow...
  3. I know this prof. He makes me second guess myself every 5 minutes. Nice guy, though it does not help me see him tweet this.
  4. Seems like for me thats already 2 out - Cornell and Chicago. Wasn't too hopeful, but I guess it still hurts....I haven't heard back anything positive or negative from elsewhere and apparently Chicago is still deciding...
  5. And...someone got in...apparently. I'm no longer so hopeful at all.....
  6. Well, someone on the board got in and was notified Friday apparently! This makes me scared because the admin website shows nothing in terms of my application status other than the fact that it was "submitted"....there goes 1/6
  7. For those of you applying to York STS, I just received an email from GPD saying that decisions will go out last week of February and first week of March.
  8. I may have asked this before but did anyone here at all apply to Chicago's Conceptual and Historical Studies of Science program? Seems that there isn't anyone else on the internet that has...
  9. Yeah, actually! Though my interests intersect. I am interested in looking at colonial networks of food and cuisine, in particular fine dining cultures, human animal relationships and "fusion" cuisine in Europe and Latin America. It's basically a more food-y version of my STS interests in ecology
  10. Man, we are kindred spirits! My geographical focus is however on Latin America/South/Southeast Asia.
  11. Applied to Food Studies PhD...they only accept 1 person!
  12. @A Librarian I see you are applying to IHPST in Toronto. I'm afraid I don't have too many good things to say about the department as of right now, but it has historically been a good place, albeit very academically conservative. Who do you want to work with there?
  13. It's so nice to see everyone encouraging each other in the STS thread! Out of curiosity, what are your research interests? I'm interested in history, philosophy and anthropology of the ecological sciences and I'm especially interested in how settler colonialism affected the way taxonomy and hierarchy of species is explained. I'm also really interested in human-animal studies through posthumanist and postcolonial lenses.
  14. Colonialism, food history, and cultures of fine dining and fusion cuisine. Regions of interest are southeast Asia, Latin America and Europe (probably will focus on Latin America).
  15. And I forgot to mention Chicago's CHSS program. That would be great too, and it seems they do let people know somewhat soonish.
  16. I'll be happy with whatever gets me out of Toronto, so I'm really waiting on Cornell, NYU (for food studies) and Oxford (geography). Oxford is the only one who has said anything...that is my file will be assessed according to the January 22 deadline (I applied in November).
  17. I applied to U of T and Oxford for Geography PhDs. The only thing I heard from Oxford was that they will consider my application as part of the January 22 deadline and nothing else. Has anyone heard from either place?
  18. I applied for STS to York and Cornell - haven't heard from either but it's probably a yes from York as it is my masters school. Let's see how it all goes. Has anyone heard from Cornell?
