Has anyone heard from Toronto?
-
Looks like the person who posted specialized in Computational Linguistics. Thanks for clarifying... Guess that means there is still hope for the sociolinguists
-
No word from Georgetown yet, but somebody just posted that they were admitted. If you read this, could you please let us know what concentration you applied to?
-
Hi JD! Sorry it took me so long to get back to you - I haven't been on here for a while. I'll talk about language ideologies in Sri Lanka. What about you?
-
I got a fellowship, too! I emailed them back with my acceptance right away but haven't heard anything from them since. Is that normal?
-
I will present at DSNA, too! I've presented at conferences before, but never at DSNA. Looking forward to meet you all there!
-
I'm also trying to take a number of classes that aren't offered at my school... Guess that is a very popular approach. Btw, I am looking for a roommate for either the campus housing or a sublet close to campus (I probably won't bring a car). Anybody interested?

Anyone has ever written an article before applying to PhD pograms?
Colombo replied to Arezoo's topic in Linguistics Forum
Arezoo, you should check into Ball State University. I got my MA there. They have an MA in Linguistics and a double MA program in Linguistics and TESOL and offer assistantships teaching ESL or freshman composition to their students... -
Awesome, Phonolog, I was hoping that was you! On a completely unrelated note: Is there anybody else who has not heard anything from Colorado? I know people have gotten acceptances, waitlistings, and rejections, but I have simply heard nothing...
-
I am really sorry, Phonolog! I am definitely keeping my fingers crossed that something will work out for you!
-
Thanks, goldheartmountaintop. I know some people have gotten accepted , but someone posted on the notice board that they were still reviewing socio applications... Since people have also been getting rejections for a while, I've just been wondering what's going on with the people who haven't heard anything...
-
I'm sorry to hear that, mq1. I was in the same situation last year, but the additional year really helped me to make my application a lot better. Are you waiting on any other schools? On a slightly different note: Has anybody else heard from UC Boulder (esp. the people who did not get invited to the Open House) or Georgetown Sociolinguistics?
-
Has Georgetown Sociolinguistics finally contacted anybody?
-
Somebody from my program got invited to an Open House for Boulder yesterday. They said they are gonna invite 7-8 external students and 6-7 of their own and that all of these are finalists... I haven't heard anything either... A part of me is still hoping, but I don't think it looks good for those of us who haven't heard anything...
-
Somebody posted that they heard from CU Boulder today. Was anybody else contacted? That's my favorite school, so I'm kinda anxious...
-
Haven't heard from Georgetown (Sociolinguistics), either... My friend is also waiting to hear from SUNY Buffalo. I know some people got accepted/an invitation to go to the Open House... What does it mean if you haven't heard anything? Has anybody gotten rejected yet?
-
True I just asked my POI and he said it was a mistake. I'll get a full tuition waiver and a stipend.
-
I am really excited because I just got an acceptance from SUNY Buffalo... However, I am not quite sure what to make of the following paragraph: "Unfortunately, we are unable at this point to offer you a fellowship. However, we will offer you what we hope will be the next best thing: a year-long Teaching Assistantship with guaranteed renewal for a second year pending performance review and the prospect of likely further renewals beyond that (pending again performance review). The fellowships come with a stipend, full tuition scholarship, health insurance, and fringe benefits." It sounds good at first, but I am not sure whether my assistantship will come with a stipend and tuition as well or if it's just the fellowship. Does anybody happen to know more?

So which universities have you guys heard from except for Northwestern?
