  1. Sorry all, the past few days have been busier than expected. Tomorrow's list: Stanford UCLA Notre Dame It's early enough PST that I might be able to get in touch with Stanford & UCLA tonight. I'll let you all know. EDIT: Couldn't get in touch with Stanford via phone. Will try email now. Talked to someone at UCLA and was told to email the grad advisor, which I did. Will get back to you as soon as I hear something. Uninformative update from McGill: Offers of admission start going out in mid to late March. Graduate students are selected for admission by the graduate committee based off of the strength of their application file. (The second sentence was presumably in response to my question as to whether they admit internationals.) If there are other schools you want me to contact tomorrow, let me know. (And hopefully, MIT contacts us tomorrow!)
  2. One Yale accept just went up... anyone want to claim it?
  3. U Conn update: "We expect to start notifying accepted applicants over the next month." These are becoming less and less informative.
  4. Yes, I'll contact Missouri tomorrow.
  5. @jacbarcan: Yes, I checked for philosophy yesterday. They said: General admissions have not been released yet, and they will not be released until the end of February. I asked if any had been released, and she said a few, possibly, if there were special circumstances but none for general admissions yet. Also asked about international: they always have a quota of how many visa students they accept (and there's a limited number of those they can accept, of course). So you can assume there will be a few international students accepted.
  6. Yeah, haven't heard anything from Riverside. Emailed the DGS two days ago...
  7. Update on Oregon (from DGS): "We have indeed notified individuals who were accepted to our PhD program and who are on our wait list. You will be notified about the status of your application shortly." Georgetown: ~2 weeks Toronto HPS: early March to mid-March; will be taking internationals McGill & Penn: No answer via phone; emailed. U Conn: Secretary didn't have any info; emailed DGS. Sorry, I know this is probably not very helpful. I'll get back to you with what I hear back over email.
  8. On the table for tomorrow are: Toronto History & Phil of Science McGill - international students; admissions decisions Penn U Conn Georgetown
  9. U Toronto (Philosophy): General admissions have not been released yet, and they will not be released until the end of February. I asked if any had been released, and she said a few, possibly, if there were special circumstances but none for general admissions yet. Also asked about international: they always have a quota of how many visa students they accept (and there's a limited number of those they can accept, of course). So you can assume there will be a few international students accepted. Sorry, but I'm going to have to wait until tomorrow to contact the Toronto History & Phil of Science program or any other schools. I'm a bit busier today than expected.. If there are any other requests, let me know and I'll get to them tomorrow. Alternatively, if someone wants to fill in for me for the rest of the day and post the results, that'd be welcome too.
  10. New Mexico: Secretary was very uninformative: "It might be a couple of months." I asked, "within the next month?" And she said, "Yeah... it might be longer than that." That seems very implausible to me, so we might want to contact the DGS. I noticed one acceptance listed for Feb 10. Oregon: I emailed the DGS about whether all acceptances & WL have gone out. Will get back to you soon. Social Thought: You'll get an email within the next couple of weeks.
  11. I have also heard from Sarah-Jane Leslie (at Princeton) that NYU, MIT, and Princeton did not yield any women for one year... It's actually a pretty terrifying situation to think about if you're a woman.
  12. Happy to contact Toronto, Oregon, and New Mexico tomorrow.
  13. I agree with @pecado. I think, in general, the dates posted should reflect normal admissions rather than special fellowship ones.
  14. Chalmers is not even the DGS or the Director of Graduate Admissions. http://philosophy.fas.nyu.edu/page/contactus
  15. So, I was going to hold off on Brown until the end of the week (someone claimed the first acceptance), but it has been a few days since the predicted date. Acceptances will be MAILED OUT by the end of the week. Sigh -- snail mail again?
  16. Not sure, but it's possible. It seems like a few other schools are doing this. No problem. Yes, I'd love to take a break for about two weeks and come back to an inbox full of decision letters, hopefully with some bearing good news. Unfortunately, that doesn't seem like it's going to happen right now.
  17. No problem! I know -- who does that nowadays? I think I'm done with calls/emails for the day. If you have places you'd like me to call tomorrow or later this week, let me know. Note that I called U Pitt earlier to find out if they'll be going to a waitlist soon. The secretary had no information for me and said that she knows nothing about the process.
  18. Arizona: "Acceptances aren't done. Usually we send out offers to our first choices and then go from there. We're just waiting to hear back from them first."
  19. Judging from past years, snail mail. No, no more info: secretaries are not generally in the loop as to what is going on with the admissions decisions. I'd have to email the DGS for that info.
  20. @oldhatnewtricks I just looked up more info on Duke before calling them. Yes, they are just that slow at rejecting (so are Berkeley and Arizona), according to the results page. They sent out acceptances on Jan 27 but rejections on Feb 18. Sorry to be a downer :/. Committee on Social Thought: Couldn't get in touch with them over phone. Emailed them. Boston College: Not all acceptances have been sent out. @Abendstern OK, yeah I see that from 2014 now. I'll give them a call.
  21. Judging from the past few years, they don't release in waves. So, probably.
  22. Riverside: no information when I called. I emailed the graduate administrator. Will get back to you if he has any info. Quick question about U Arizona. It seems like, based on previous patterns, after acceptances and wait lists have gone out, then you can assume you've been rejected. Is there any reason to believe otherwise? I have no problem calling Arizona in particular, but I think that the general policy for schools in cases like this should be not calling because (1) it seems safe to assume rejection, and (2) even if someone calls, it's extremely unlikely that they'll tell you that all acceptances went out or that you can assume rejection. At least one reason has already been offered for this: they want to leave some students in a "no-status" pile in case accepted students decline their offers.
  23. No problem And that's just what I was thinking.
  24. Indiana: Not all acceptances have come out; they're still processing them. Berkeley: Berkeley still has not been informative. The answer is "the first week of March." I asked about the fact that a lot of acceptances and waitlists have already come out, and I was wondering whether only rejections are left. She claimed they weren't done and reiterated: "the first week of March." So, it sounds like no progress will be made on the Berkeley front. I'm not sure if I believe her, but if you want to hold on to some hope... USC: I asked when acceptances are coming out. The secretary had a (somewhat lengthy) discussion with a philosophy professor (I overheard some of it), and eventually the answer became "within the coming week," though initially it was "within 2 weeks." I'm not sure if that means by the end of this week or by next Tuesday, but hopefully, it's the former. Are we confident that all rejections have been released? It seems to me that's plausible, but another was just posted today. I could try to find out about that, but I'd probably need to contact the DGS directly for that one. Alright, that's 1 through 4 off the list for today (recall the Brown edit). Indiana (2/16) Berkeley (2/16) USC (2/16) Brown (2/19) That leaves: 7. Riverside 10. U Chicago Committee on Social Thought 12. Arizona 13. Boston College 14. Duke
  25. I agree with you on that. We'll give it to the end of the week. I'll edit accordingly, thanks!
