heystap I was waitlisted a couple of years ago. After a month of waiting they asked me if I wanted to continue on the list as it seemed very unlikely anyone would give up their space by then. Noone gave up their space then but a friend of mine was placed on the waitlist in 2013 and was lucky enough to get a spot because someone couldn't attend. I say it has a lot to do with luck...best of luck to you!

Thank you for your kind words cpw0021! I didn't get that encouraging email this time– congratulations!. It seems that my application was reviewed until march 15th with a total of 14 plays between my two videos, last year the videos were reviewed until late feb and had a total of 10 plays between the two. I think that the number of plays or until when they review your work has nothing to do with the final results as someone mentioned before. Hopefully we'll get in next time!

@aethiryn, I think then contact them after acceptance emails. A couple of people were accepted in the past said their recommenders hadn't been contacted yet.

Hy Tyra1992, for some reason the site wasn't letting me post. Back to your reply, I applied with video and yes I had a play on March 15th. Have you had any other plays since January or is this one the only one?

  11. Rejected too ...this one's mine: Thank you for your application to the 2016 summer session at Skowhegan School of Painting and Sculpture. While we are unable to offer you a spot in this year’s class, we wanted to let you know that your application made it to the final round. The committee that reviewed your work thought it was very strong. We were extremely impressed by the applicants this year and found the review process to be extremely challenging. With over 2100 applicants, while it was continuously exciting to see the work that is being produced around the world at this moment, it was without a doubt our toughest jurying process. On behalf of the Board of Governors, faculty, and staff, we deeply appreciate the time you spent preparing your application. The application process often offers an overview of what is happening in art in any given moment—please know that your work and the work of your peers is contributing to an important dialogue. We hope you will continue to seek out opportunities and communities to support your practice and your voice.
  12. I think it's a very difficult situation especially if you can't afford to pay $600 for an artist residency, which I wouldn't out of my own pocket. As emerging artists, as in my case, it's already hard enough to support myself while doing my work. That being said, ACA is a unique program. The fact that you will have the chance to develop a personal relationship with the master artist and have him/her become familiar with your practice is worth every penny of the fee, more so if the the master artist is someone you admire/ has influenced your work. An array of opportunities may come for you out of that experience –the master artist could help further your career in the future by recommending you to curators and even nominating you to grants. A fellow artist in my group was nominated to the Joan Mitchell Foundation grant by the master artist a year after the residency and won it! So there you have it. I think you will have to put both options on a scale and see what is better for you right now. If you decide to go, I suggest you start a fundraising campaign asap–kickstarter, gofund me have worked for me in the past. You can also email the person in charge of financial aid and ask him if there's a possibility of paying the fee in installments. They are always willing to help accepted associates. Good luck and keep us posted on your decision!
