Decisions..hmm... is it rude to ask the attrition rate of students in the program? Or is there a euphemism/polite way of phrasing this inquiry? PM if you need details.

Is Stanford accepting/waitlisting any more students?
-
UT Austin Philosophy PhD program or University of Chicago MAPH to re-apply to a top 10 Philosophy PhD program?? Does the latter give a significant advantage?
-
Siegfried, thanks for your thoughtful comments! I'm trying to keep an open mind at this point. I know the philosophy job market is extremely competitive. I need to do more research on legal academia. I'm not sure which side I want to pursue, but I'd like a "scholarly" career. I will be doing visits to DC and California soon, so I think the trips will help me decide. I am concerned about living in DC...I'm not sure I could handle the snow!

Yes, I applied to the PhD program, and I'm hoping I'll get in....if I don't, I'm thinking I can't turn down the law school offer. Keeping my fingers crossed I'll get in, but I've presumably been rejected from the philosophy PhD programs at Yale and Harvard. I'm not too sure how competitive my app to Stanford is.

Thanks, Nat. I still haven't heard back.

Whoops! Don't mean to add to the confusion!

I feel the same way about all these spam phone calls I keep getting (aside from the fact that they're definitely not geared toward political revolution)!! Taking it one email/phone call at a time.
-
Yeah I figured. I haven't heard back from them either. Thanks for confirming. Hmm....
-
Siegfried, I think @philosophe posted that an "inside" source had info about when the ad comm will meet.
-
Still nothing from UCLA?
-
Rejected from Harvard! Oh well, I might have frozen to death up there! On the bright side, I got into Stanford law! Keeping my fingers crossed about the philosophy side.
-
I agree with that. I'd surely find other ways!

I wish all the notifications came out on 1 day....
-
Keeping my fingers crossed that there's still a chance!

I feel you on that. I am an anxious mess!! Presumed rejection is the worst limbo. Waiting to hear from the trifecta-- YHS. Let's try to keep our chins up!

Anyone else on the waitlist at UCLA? Does it really exist?!? I'm on it, but I don't know where! (anxiously waiting to hear back )
-
Yes! I visited Colorado this summer, and it was beautiful. I applied to Georgetown Law, but I only submitted that app a few days ago. Thanks so much for your support--the waiting game is hard! Best of luck to you with your remaining applications!

CONGRATS!!

Congrats on getting into Colorado! I haven't had any acceptances on both sides, but I've had one PhD acceptance (Georgetown) and one law school acceptance (UT Austin). I was a bit late on getting my law school apps out. I'm also aiming for some top 14 schools, and I'm really hoping they're not out of reach. I'm starting to wonder if I should have applied to MA programs, but I think getting waitlisted at UCLA bodes well.

Yes! I applied to the JD/PhD programs at 10 schools spread out across the top 50...some with formal dual degree programs, some without.
-
That's helpful. Thank you very much. I responded that I was very interested, but I didn't ask about the wait-list. I assumed that I was fairly high because I've been creeping on grad cafe and didn't see anyone else post about the waitlist. Stanford and UCLA are my dream programs!

The WL to UCLA post was me. I received an e-mail from John Carriero 2/16 saying I had a "strong application"-- not sure what my next steps will be in order to get accepted! Any advice on how to follow up on a wait-list notification? I'm very interested in UCLA's JD/PhD program.
