  1. Hello! I interviewed with Harvard ~3 weeks ago and I haven't heard anything yet. I really hope they haven't sent all acceptances....I don't think they typically send them all at once but who knows. Trying to hold out hope while not getting my hopes up ?
  2. Thank you for starting this thread! I will check in because I have benefited so much from the threads made in previous years. First time PhD applicant. Applying to four PhD programs in social / socio-cultural anthropology, and one program in medical anthropology. Here to commiserate and offer support!
  3. It will be okay. I am just trying to wrap my head around it. Is this real? Them notifying SSA in March? Feels so out of the blue. The disbelief is leaving me and I am starting to feel devastated!
  4. FYI South Africa notified me of being not selected.... trying to not be totally devastated.
  5. I can't explain the joy it brings me to witness all of your successes on this forum. This wait is excruciating but if nothing else, one perk of being notified late April is the happiness I get to watch until then!
  6. Never forget the person who obviously trolled the Spain ETAs yesterday! Fingers crossed
  7. I went on twitter to scope things out, and all I learned was that the next application cycle opens before I'm even projected to find out!!!! Lol
  8. I'm not supposed to hear for a month and I still check my email every 20 minutes. Lol
  9. Congratulations!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
  10. I realize this is an overdue question and it was briefly discussed a while ago -- but do any of you with research affiliations think that Fulbright commissions are checking in with your proposed PIs at host universities?
  11. Research in South Africa!
  12. This email had no chill!
  13. This is excruciating! I am a control freak, so this wait is really testing me!
  14. Any people not hearing until April that I can commiserate with? So stressed
  15. I know I am idealistic and I see where you're coming from-- but maybe the selection committee in Germany will have a special affinity for your research especially now! It seems actually quite possible that they will see your research as necessary. And faculty/academics everywhere seem to be exercising resistance - I see your situation as only positive. And I hope you get it too, because we need your research!
  16. Thank you for the advice! I am really grateful. I love to play soccer so maybe, I too, can make a soccer connection that is, if I have an interview - not sure if South Africa typically holds them. So the waiting begins!
  17. My FPA unfortunately provides very little advice or information. I respect it; I go to a large, well-known, public university and I think/hope it is because she is trying to preserve the integrity of the process at my school -- not to say that FPAs who share information or advice aren't in any way. Maybe it's because of the volume of people who go through the process here? I don't know. I am not getting much guidance about the process. I updated my affiliate faculty with my semi-finalist status, but I didn't specifically say that they should be prepared for a call. My affiliation is in South Africa and I was considering, since my FPA doesn't share much, and the Fulbright website suggests using them for questions, that I could introduce myself to the U.S. Consulate in the city I've proposed affiliation? I just don't know if that's weird? But I was thinking it might not hurt to ask if they have any suggestions or guidance. Does anyone have any thoughts about doing something like that?
  18. Anyone else for South Africa for research?
