Yes, I received the e-mail update from UA as well.. While I'm glad to get any update, it prolongs the pain of waiting and endlessly scouring gradcafe! :P

Haha I've been counting down until the deadline they gave us while secretly hoping they'd let us know this week.

I hope they let us know before Spring Break!

I got accepted to UT. My parents live in Tennessee, but I have worked and been in school for the past 4 years in Alabama so I'm not sure what residency I can claim. Drivers liscense is Alabama because before my parents moved to Tennessee a year ago, we were Alabama residents

As a disclaimer, I don't know what the case is for every state! But from what I understand, if your parents are claiming you as a dependent then you're considered a resident of the state they're a resident of. So if they qualify as Tennessee residents and they're claiming you as a dependent, I think you would be considered a resident. Again though, I'd see what the qualifications are for Tennessee, specifically.

    Hey everyone!

I have a quick question that I was wondering if you could all help me with?

At what point is it okay to email the school and ask when they will notify you?  I don't want to bother them and ruin my chances of acceptance if they haven't made a decision but I am basing a lot of things off of this acceptance such as leaving my current job for a new one etc (i don't want to go to a new job now if I am accepted as it wouldn't make sense to work there for only a few months before graduate school).   I also have only applied to one school so if I don't get in I need to decide what my next step is.

    Thanks in advance!

I would also check the admissions results page and see when your school started sending out responses last year. If they didn't send out information until mid to late March, I'd consider waiting until then to contact them.

Lol, it's actually really silly, but I'm freaking out because last year I applied and got rejected to all my schools (and wait-listed to one), and I ended up crying a bit the day I got that last rejection letter, even though I thought I'd be able to deal with it a little better. I'll be traveling abroad for most of this March, so I'm just kind of scared I'll get the rejections somewhere in a foreign country and end up awkwardly crying in public or in the hotel. It's embarrassing, and totally a worst case scenario fear (if I get rejected to 12 schools I think I might have to reconsider if I belong in this field), but I just really am hoping to avoid finding out if it'll come true or not . Lame, but I'm terrified of rejections pouring in during that time.

No, that's totally understandable! The last thing you want is to get bad news when you're in an unfamiliar place AND in public. Hopefully you hear back before you leave!

Oh okay. I'm getting anxious. It seems like this forum is getting a lot of activity but so far I've only heard back from 3/12 schools. I hope next week some schools start sending out decisions.

I wouldn't freak out! Based on the results page, a lot of schools start responding in March / around Spring Break.

I didn't talk much about that with them, but I've read about it on their website. It sounds great! I've got lots of experience in school settings (I'm an English teacher), but I'm looking to expand and try out other settings. Plus I like their bilingual program, which is one of the key parts for me since I speak Spanish and work in Mexico at the moment.

That was the only question I really managed to get in haha. That and what they do with students who don't have the BA/BS in the field.

Does anyone have any student contacts at NAU or are there any undergraduate students that could give me some details on their program?  I'd love to PM some questions I had about how they are set up if anyone has first hand experience with this program!

I think you might be able to get a hold of someone through the old NAU posts, or at least find some stuff out!

I asked my cousin at NAU what she'd heard about the program but she never got back to me. ?

We got through about 6 questions I think. It felt rushed :/ It was by design though; they started off saying it was only supposed to last about 10 min. I really just appreciate that they even did interviews! Most programs I've applied to don't even interview at all. It's a really nice personal touch.

I for one am glad for your use of free time :)  I just can't wait to hear back!

It was a nice change, and I think it was a good experience. I'm kind of glad they kept it so short, just because I felt like I was starting to talk in circles.

I really liked what they told me about UNM's clinical placements. Apparently we get to see a private practice, school-based, and more of a hospital setting. Plus, they have you work with kids and adults, which I was super excited about!

  9. For stuff like GA or TA positions, does the school offer them to you or do you apply for them? I've talked with GAs on my campus (who are admittedly in a different field) who had to apply for their positions.

And, along those lines, would it be feasible for us to accept a GA position that wasn't speech / language related? I know the school I'm at right now has a lot of GA positions in stuff like student affairs and organizations.

I just wish I'd had more time. I felt very rushed to get through it all in the suggested ten minutes.

Did they mention anything about a decision date?

I did too. I didn't feel like they let me ask all of my questions because we were running out of time.

Uh no. But, because I spend my free time during work creeping on the admissions page, I saw that last year they notified people sometime around March 7th, maybe March 11th. So I'm thinking second week of March.

I notice the program is so large. Does this mean all the grad classes are big? Or are multiple sections offered? Anybody have any insight into this?

I've noticed that too! I actually got on to ask if anyone has any information about the program here that they'd like to share. None of the other programs I've applied to are nearly as large as UTD's seems to be, and I'm wondering what a typical class would look like.

Also, if anyone's visited the campus I'd love to hear your thoughts on it! I don't think I'll be able to go until after I've made a decision on which program I'd like to attend. I haven't been to UTD since I was a senior in high school, and I visited when everyone had left for Winter Break (so it was kind of deserted at the time).

    Hi Everyone,

I've just received an email invitation to a phone interview at The University of New Mexico (UNM). I'm really excited because this sounds like a fantastic program and this will be a great way for them to get to know me and me them.

Anywho - I was wondering if anyone knows anything about their interviews, how they run, what they tend to ask about, etc.

    Thanks!

I had my phone interview on Monday. They mainly wanted to know stuff like why I was interested in this field, diversity in the clinic, and something else. They were really friendly, and once we figured out how to get the speaker phone to work it wasn't too bad!

Have you had your interview yet?

From what I know, we should all be hearing back by March 7th! There is one rogue post on the results page that claims an acceptance on February 8th, but it seems a bit odd since that's only a week after the deadline and no one else has heard back yet.

I saw that! I got really excited, but nothing's popped up since. I think that poster was accepted into the PhD program and that's why they heard back so soon. The MS students must still be processing.
