  1. @Verloren Just because other schools interview, doesn't mean that it is right or constitutional. It is unconstitutional for federally funded public universities to violate the freedom of speech of applicants/students which is what the school is essentially doing by having the interview as they are monitoring the thoughts, opinions, etc of people and accepting/rejecting people based on that. You justify it by saying that the school conducts the interviews to determine if an applicant is a "good fit" for the program, what exactly does "good fit" mean when it comes to a federally funded, public university and how does the school determine that based on the interview/writing sample?
  2. If @Ellenesk is rejected based on the essay and/or interview alone, then Hunter Silberman School of Social Work certainly has a civil rights problem and should not be receiving any type of federal funding until they stop violating the rights of students. This is true regardless if it was because of a physical condition or other disability that Hunter should have provided accommodation for or if it was based on written/verbal content which is a free speech violation. Either way, the interview (as well as the writing sample) is unconstitutional as it violates the first amendment rights of applicants which is illegal especially since Hunter is a federal funded public university and does not have the right to violate the rights of applicant/students. @Ellenesk and anyone else rejected based on the interview and/or writing sample should file a civil rights lawsuit against Hunter (and any other cuny graduate program that conducts these unconstitutional interviews).
  3. I don't understand the whole idea behind the interview. If this were for a job then I would understand since you would want to know more about my skills, experiences, and perhaps ability to do my job etc. However, in this case, I am applying to a university to get an education, why do they need to interview me beforehand? Do people no longer have the right to get an education from a public university if the interviewer doesn't like someone or agree with whatever they say? How is the interview even legal in the first place considering that the school is a federally funded public university and does not have the right to discriminate against students/applicants and/or violate their first amendments rights (which is what the school is essentially doing with the interview)?
  4. Thank you! I heard of someone who got 15k with a 4.00 GPA but no field experience so I was wondering what they factor in when the award the merit scholarship. I guess the merit scholarship is dependent solely on the undergraduate GPA. I wonder why they only factor that in instead of other variables such as work or research experience. Does anyone know?
  5. Anyone apply to these programs? What is the difference between the two? Have you been on an interview to either one and how was it?
  6. For those of you who were accepted to NYU Silver--Congratulations on your acceptance! If you already got your merit scholarship award, would you please let me know what your undergraduate gpa is and what kind of experience you have in the field and what the scholarship amount is? I would really appreciate it! TIA
  7. Awesome! That was very quick. And you waited less than four weeks while some people have been waiting for 3-4 months now so I guess they are not going in the order that they received applications. But congrats! How was the interview? How many people did they interview? What were the questions they asked? Did you have to write something as well? About what? And do you have any tips for the rest of us on how to ace the interview? Thank you. Congratulations!
  8. Oh, and thank you to everyone else who responded, I appreciate it! Please update us when you receive an invite/admissions offer from Hunter. Thank you!
  9. I saw that as well but I am not sure if it's true. 2/27 is on a Saturday, not friday. But even if this person interviewed on Friday 2/26, would they receive a response in less than two days? Or is the admissions committee working on weekends to speed up the process considering they are behind all the other schools? And how come no one else has heard back yet or are all invited applicants not active on grad cafe? This is strange and I'm not sure what to believe.
  10. Has anyone been invited for a group interview or been accepted yet? Or know when they are planning to start interviewing or accepting people?
