I wonder if they're mailing decisions. I would have assumed that the online system would have sent out the decision letter yesterday if it were digital. Hopefully we get something on Monday!

My decision was sent in an e-mail and through the mail. I got the e-mail about a week before the mail letter.

Good luck! I only applied to the Alabama program as well. I'm currently working at an academic library and I did not want to leave my current position. Alabama's online program seemed to be one of the most cost effective programs. I already have my MSED so I wanted to minimize any additional student loan debt. I just wish they were a little speedier with admissions notifications. I didn't realize the program waited until after April 1 to review applications. It's getting late in the admissions cycle to apply to a back up program.

It's crazy that they wait so late to review applications when admission decisions are due by April 15th! Have you heard back yet?

So where *do* all future librarians gather and post?

I've applied to UBC, if it's a no I'll try the UWO winter intake. I may have relied too much on everyone's characterization of library schools as not very selective. But the die is cast now!

It may not apply to the unis you are applying to, lemur1993, but at UBC they told me that any indication of ability to succeed in graduate studies is valued highly. A completed MA signals that you can probably do it again!

    Good luck to everyone!

You were right. I was 15/200 people to get a GAship! Feeling lucky

Is anyone else still waiting to hear about their admissions decision?

I just got back a few today and replied to your earlier comment! I forgot about this forum for a while. Did you apply to Alabama? I have heard good things from my friends (all three are now employed at libraries)

I am considering putting together my application for Fall 2018. I am considering completing an online MLIS because I already have my master's degree in education. How do you plan on funding your second master's degree? I borrowed quite a bit the first time around, so I'm hesitant to fund a second expensive master's degree through loans. Personally, I would not worry about getting into the programs. For the most part, admission is not as competitive.

I'm only applying to schools that offer some kind of assistantship, but if I don't get any offers, I'll probably just take out a loan. I have luckily been almost 75% funded so far, so I don't mind going a little more in debt.

  6. I noticed that no one has started a discussion for this year's application. I don't know if all the potential librarians post on another site or something, but I would love to talk to other people applying for Fall 2018 season.

I am applying to UW-Madison, University of Tennessee, University of Alabama, Texas Woman's University, University of North Carolina Greensboro, University of Oklahoma, and Louisiana State University.

    Is anyone else applying there?

I will be completing my first master's in May. It is in English literature. Has anyone heard if having another master's might give an edge when applying for a second? Or does anyone have any info about any of those schools that they would like to share?

  7. Does anyone know if there is a list of Library Science programs that fund incoming students?

I have found the University of Arizona, University of North Texas, University of Texas -Austin, and the University of Oklahoma. I see that Simmons has limited opportunities as well. I do not want to apply to schools that do not offer some possibility of a fellowship or tuition remission. Can anyone add to my list?

Got the link in apply yourself. Also, we found a house to rent on Alan Ave. about 1 1/2 miles from campus. What is the are like around Alan Ave. Just wanted your insight before we actually rent the house. Thanks!

I think that's a pretty decent area. I used to live near the Dean / Glenn intersection over near where Alan Avenue is. It was a lot of non-college students with kids though.

I received the orientation email for incoming PhDs yesterday with all of the info for insurance, funding, orientation, etc., but I still haven't received the letter from the grad school. Are you talking about the apply yourself portal? I didn't see a link to view my decision there. Oh well, I'm sure it will be squared away soon enough.

Yep, that's what I'm referring too. It's a little link at the bottom :) And yeah, if you got that e-mail, then I'm sure you are fine.

Thanks for the insight and nice to meet you! I am quite excited to join the AU English dept. So far, my experience with the dept. and the GS has been wonderful. I don't know if they are simply friendly people or if the friendliness is a put-on during the "courting" process, but I appreciate it all the same. I don't care for the "ivory tower" mentality in academia, and they seem to have overcome it. I am sure we will see each other around. Maybe you can give us a tour of Auburn if we decide to visit before moving? It will also be nice to know someone in the dept. and in the town before uprooting our lives and moving to a new town. As soon as the DGS sends the GTA paperwork my way, my spouse and I will more than likely visit to get our bearings and to submit the paperwork. We live about 3 1/2 hours away, so the drive is manageable for a day trip. On a side note, did you receive the official letter from the Graduate School? I have not yet, and it is a little unsettling as I turned down another funded offer in favor of Auburn. I have only been in correspondence with the DGS, and I accepted the offer with him through email. Again, thanks for the insight.

My experience has been great, too. I received an e-mail from the graduate school with a link to the official letter. If you login at your original application place, you should have an option to view the decision. I also received an e-mail today with orientation information.

Also starting a PhD in Auburn this Fall and need some insight into housing there. I am married, so my wife and I are looking for a quiet residence close to campus. We are open to apartments, houses, condos, townhouses, etc. We also have pets moving with us. Any help is greatly appreciated. Also, my wife is an early childhood teacher, so insight into the school districts and the difficulty of landing a job with a nearby school system will help too. Thanks!

I don't know that you will be able to find anything "quiet" near campus. I've lived for 2 years near the Gay St / Samford intersection and it is anything but quiet. Try to avoid living near any of the fraternity or sorority houses. If you are willing to drive or catch the bus, I would suggest looking into Alice Henderson Realty or Copper Beach. Otherwise, most of the apartments closer to downtown are loud and filled with 18 year olds. On the subject of schools, there are at least 3 elementary schools that I know of within 20 minutes of campus. Haven't heard anything about job stats, but there are definitely multiple places to apply.

Also, I'd like to extend a general hello. I'm entering the MA program in literature. We might see each other around.
