I work in DC and I completely understand about choosing something metro accessible over having to get through DC traffic every day. Personally if I had the choice of SAIS vs SSP (to me they seem equally reputable among the people where I work) accessibility is a very real factor and is not ridiculous and I would go with SAIS.

To be honest you've got me beat on the stats and I agree that I think there are a ton of military/civilian professionals with 5+yrs professional experience applying because of the economy/laid off etc. Good luck to you though and likewise, I'll let you know if I hear anything.

Was just wondering if anyone has heard back from these guys? I see the SFS showing up in the results section but no SSP so far.

NOPE, didn't get in people. i don't know who the f**k these universities are taking these days, but I'm guessing unless your resume says Jesus himself, I don't know how you are gonna get in.

Yea WTF, my guess is because the economy is so crappy that a lot of professionals who have 5-10 years experience in the military or international relations field are applying now as well because they either were laid off or can't find real jobs.

Just got the reject from Yale IR. My stats were 770/640/5 3.5gpa 2yrs working with International defense company, several internships with the White House and State Depts, fluent in 4 languages. I don't know who the F they are accepting but it must be pretty close to Jesus himself. God help us all and good luck to you guys.

Yup just contacted Georgetown SSP and Yale IR and got the same thing. Next two weeks. Guess all I can do until then is. . . . still check this stie every 30min for news.

Would you guys mind posting your stats and where you applied? I realize they already have that "positives" thread going but that isn't really relevant to people in our study area which is much more focused than the general applicant pool. ( I feel like if I realize that I don't have much as far as anything outstanding in my own stats that I'm going to take the inevitable rejection much better than if I thought I ever actually had a chance. ) If not and this is already nerve-wracking enough as it is then I understand.

haven't heard anything. Been checking the online status on all my applications pretty much three times a day (stupid. . .I know). It looks like I'll have to wait until toward the end of the Month given past years results history.

Well was the subject test in a math/science? If so, then yea that might set you back a bit. If it's in something like not left-brain (or right brain is it? can't remember) then wouldn't worry.

If you are applying to a math program I'm pretty sure your math GRE score is all that really matters. I wouldn't worry about the V score because yours wasn't too bad and it doesn't really apply to the program you are going for.

I don't know, I looked at the results search for the places I'm applying to and I don't hear back until the end of March. Could just be that you are in the later batch of schools that send out notifications. You could always make a call to the schools and just don't give them your name and ask when you would expect to hear back. You can even *67 the call if you don't want them to see the number. . . .but that's a bit on the paranoid side.

If you are a white male US citizen from middle - upper class you are basically screwed unless your parents make a big donation to the school of your choice. You might want to put down you are a half black/half native American trans-gender homosexual female. You probably don't even have to take the GRE with some lineage like that. (Sarcasm. . . not really)

Um no, I contacted the admissions offices directly and at least for the ones I'm applying to they explicitly said all notifications for the Masters programs are made end of Feb- March. Also if you look at the results search pages you may or may not have noticed that for this current application season, almost all results have been PhD's so far. You are just starting to see Masters results pop up. If you also compare it to previous years you'll see in general that PhD's come first. I agree it depends on university for the specific timing but take another look at the results search page.

I think most PhD's have already been notified. MA's don't usually hear till last week in Feb and the first two weeks in March. You might have been going through the serch results from previous years. Good luck though.

Eh, how about enough with the back and forth. As far as your super craptacular GRE score. Maybe grad school, or just school isn't for you. I'm not saying you are as dumb as a bag of hammers, but your brain may just be telling you it's had it with the input function. So why not try something else? If I were you I'd load up on Adderall or Ritalin and try again. I'm not dispensing medical mumbo jumbo and I'm not legally responsible for any action you take. I'm just saying what I would do if I had your condition where . . . .was that a rabbit?! . . . you just can't focus on anything for more than. . . .I swear I saw a rabbi!. . . a few seconds. So, my GPA from Rice in Houston and one year at the London School of Economics in the UK was 3.46 and my GRE scores are 770Q/640V/5AW. Kinda seems mediocre to me to be honest. BUT I have interned with the State Dept (3 summers), the White House Council of Economic Advisers (1 summer), and have held research positions at CSIS, AEI, Potomac Institute, and the Baker Institute during the last several years in counter-terrorism/economics related areas. I also worked for two years full time after graduating in 08 with one of the big three international defense companies in their strategic planning groups. Did I also mention I am fluent in Iraqi Arabic, Spanish, and English? So do you guys think I have a shot at Yale MA in IR, Georgetown SSP, Harvard Kennedy School, Stanford IPS?? What says you!? I guess I'll be finding out in the next two or three weeks here but never hurts to hear what the masses say.

I've heard two things, one that we only hear back via hard copy in the mail (not great bc I listed my parents home address as the mailing address since I move nation-wide for my work every few weeks, and they check the mail once in a while and mostly throw everything away since it's all junk. . . . ) or on the online application by logging in to the site we applied through and checking the status on there (lame, bc it leads to me neurotically check at least twice a day). I did get some email a few weeks back from Yale talking about their housing and the general geographic area etc but I believe that's a pretty standard email to all applicants. Did nearly give me a heart attack though bc the subject line said "Admissions. . . ."
