  1. I would assume just for funding, though it could make your application stand out a little more for being early.
  2. Ah, what are your areas of interests? And welcome to the forums!
  3. American University only offers an MA in Sociology, but they have a Public Sociology concentration.
  4. Again though, your GRE scores are only one part of your application. If the rest is extremely strong, I think a slightly lower GRE score than average won't be the end of your app. For the record, my GRE scores are nothing great (620V/660Q/5AW), and I've still gotten into (what I think are) some great programs so far. Although obviously the better your GRE scores, the more your application can stand out. So improving your scores is not going to hurt you.
  5. I was thinking maybe AU, lol, because someone posted an American University acceptance yesterday on the results page.
  6. May I ask which program did you get into that you are considering a concentration in Public Sociology?
  7. Starting next weekend I'm off to start visiting some of the schools in to which I've already been accepted. I'm not quite sure what to expect going to these recruitment type of events and what I should ask/be prepared for. I contacted POIs and graduate students with similar interests as mine back in September/October before I even applied to any schools - so I've already asked a million questions before I did my apps. Nonetheless, I'm starting to compile a new list of a million questions of I want to ask during my visits. Therefore, what are questions that you think are pertinent that I ask, and what all should I be expecting during these types of visits? Thanks for all help & advice in advance!!
  8. Haha. Kelly Hopkins seem to put all of our e-mail addresses in the e-mail today, so I guess that gives us a sense of how many are actually RSVP'd already...
  9. Sorry on your UT-Austin rejection What are your interests in sociology of education? I applied to both UT-Austin & UMD as well, so I was wondering what your interests are and who you wanted to work with?
  10. Good luck! My undergrad mentor got his PhD from CUNY, and I would have applied if it wasn't for their foreign language requirement. It is definitely an awesome program!
  11. Who are you interested in working with at Northwestern? And yes, UT-Austin's recruitment event in sociology looks pretty sweet!!
  12. Haha thanks for the compliment on my icon - I actually have it tatted on my chest I'd say Northwestern is definitely my top choice, and I'd die if I got in there. However, UT-Austin & Indiana are my next two choices, so I already feel humbled & blessed for those admits. Berkeley is also my other top choice, though Thorne is supposedly retiring, and I don't know how strong their sexuality research is nowadays, but you know, it is Berkeley. So awesome that you got in to Michigan & Berkeley on the same day!! I'm sure you are just elated!!
  13. Ah, I'm gender & sexuality too! Is Berkeley your top choice?
  14. Do you mind revealing what your stats are? I'm not know why I'm obsessing over Berkeley. If I get in it will just throw all of my decisions for a loop, as it is such a great program, but I don't think its the best fit for me. Who knows what I will do. Oy vey!
  15. Did they mention any funding for the visitation? CONGRATS!
  16. Did you interview with them?
  17. Yea, I know. Well I didn't apply to UNC, but the DGS from IU I know mentioned that UNC's was Feb. 25th as well. I'll be going to OSU's recruitment event that day, and I will hopefully find another Friday to go visit IU. I keep having a fear though that if by some powers that be I get into Northwestern, that their event may be the same time as UT-Austin's. Congrats on your acceptances though and good luck figuring out which recruitment event you will be going to!!
  18. I was accepted this morning by Indiana!!!
  19. Someone else just claimed a Berkeley acceptance on the results page. Is this one real? Any one here want to lay claim to it!?!?!
  20. American University has a rolling admission deadline, but I think you had to apply before Feb. 1st to be considered for financial aid. Nonetheless, you can always e-mail the socy admin there (Sandra Linden) and see. Best of luck!!
  21. No, I was just accepted...
  22. No word on how many acceptances letters they sent or the expected incoming cohort. I got an acceptance e-mail from the graduate program coordinator on the 14th, then an e-mail about a week later from one of the people I listed that I wanted to work with, and then an e-mail last week from the coordinator again about the recruitment event in march. All have been pretty generic e-mails, so no clue on any personal details. Sorry!!
  23. To the UT-Austin applicants: have you logged in to Texas's status check lately? I was accepted on the 14th, but they just updated my status this past week. You may be able to get some news through logging in to that system. To the Indiana applicants: the DGS called me Monday night, and we talked for awhile. I don't think they are phoning EVERYONE who they may accept, but I'm not for sure. All I do know is that they will be making decisions within a week, so if anything like last year, I'm guessing we should hear something by Sunday...
  24. I put Thorne, Raka Ray, and Kristin Luker as my POIs. It is one of my top choices, but I wouldn't say it is my top of tops, lol. The cost of living is outrageous there, and who knows with all the UC mess if the fin aid is even good for admitted students. I guess only time will tell....
  25. All of these acceptances are really exciting and inspiring!
