  1. Hello! Does anyone know about funding at SJSU? I'm still waiting to hear back about my application, but was curious about how often students get scholarships for the MSW program. Any info would be great! I'm leaning towards UCLA, but they aren't sending out official financial aid packages until July :/
  2. @Lorie I was under the impression that once the office reviewed our FAFSA, etc. they could award us a need-based scholarship. I don't the 2k was referring to a scholarship we apply for. I may be wrong, but that was my understanding. The list of scholarships are additional. I'm also having a hard time finding anything I"m eligible for. Have you looked through this site: http://socialworklicensemap.com/become-a-social-worker/social-work-scholarships/
  3. @RCtheSS @Lorie @lizlizliz I was thinking the same thing looking at my letter last night! However, it sounds like they wont add in the work study, 2k scholarships etc., until we get our "official aid package" in July. Does that sound right? From my understanding this was just showing that our FAFSA was approved and that we're eligible for loans...which isn't very encouraging, but at least it's something. Let me know if you guys hear differently! Does anyone know about how challenging it is to work a part time job as a full time MSW student? I've heard people say that it's hard to do, but I'm curious about what that means. I worked numerous jobs all through undergrad while taking a full course load, and the idea of having a small source of income that doesn't come with interest sounds really nice! Any info would be greatly appreciated!
  4. @kel.le Tiffany told me that all awardees for fellowships were already notified. She said that if any aid becomes available (someone declines their offer) they will reassess and may send out more notifications. It sounds like if we had gotten a fellowship we would know, but we can also apply for funding next year.
  5. Hi @HopflSW ! Thanks for your response! I did get that form, but I am not interested in the online program personally. It sounds like a great option, but I really learn best from in person classes/discussions, so I indicated that I was interested in the on-campus program. I am leaning toward UCLA at this point, but am still waiting to hear back from SJSU. Good luck everyone!!
  6. Hi @Guitarman12 . I have been working in Psych research for the past 5ish years and stumbled on your post! I actually recently decided to go the social work route instead of the PhD route, but I have a lot of friends who are loving their Clinical Psych routes and had a few ideas for you. First, are you interested in getting a PhD in Social Psych? If so, you may be more prepared than you think. Clinical Psych programs require a lot of experience, especially clinical experiences, and often prefer older applicants who have been working for longer. Social Psych programs seem to be a little more flexible. You should look into admission stats for programs you're interested in. They will generally list average GPA/GRE/ years of experience for their incoming students. If you're close to it, you should try applying, if not, it's great to look into other options to make you a more competitive applicant. From what I've heard, masters programs are often an expensive way to get into a PhD program. If finances aren't an issue for it, go for it! If they are though, you may be able to build your resume/CV even more by getting more experience working at a top tier research institution, getting more conferences, and possibly another publication or two, in the same amount of time you would have been in school. So if you could apply to labs that study topics that are related to what you would want to study in grad school, I would definitely recommend taking that route instead! That way, you can get paid to get your PhD, and likely get a Masters in the process! Good luck with everything!
  7. @sl332907 Check out this site! I'm not sure how many of these make decisions prior to the 4/15 cutoff, but you may find some good scholarship opportunities! Good luck http://socialworklicensemap.com/become-a-social-worker/social-work-scholarships/
  8. Hi all! I applied to the campus program and still haven't heard anything. I've heard back from all other programs I've applied to and hope SJSU sends out notifications soon! I keep checking my MySJSU account and my status has said "referred to grad dept" for months now. Any updates? And congratulations @HopflSW
  9. Hello all! I was accepted to UCLA last Friday and am waiting on my official letter. Does anyone know how long you generally have to submit your intent to enroll? UCLA is my top choice, but I'm trying to hold out on my financial aid packages from other programs before declining the other programs, just in case. I'm nervous about loans, but realllly hopeful I can make it work at UCLA! Any information would be great!! Thanks and congrats to everyone else that's already heard back (good luck to everyone that's still waiting to hear!!!) - Maggie
