yeah, I've been able to with two schools so far since i know people who have gotten unofficial emails (in which case i ask if not having received one means I should not expect one), but the waiting is killing me on my other schools and I just want to get this over with...problem is, I can't figure a good way to ask outside of just, "hey I'm impatient, can you just tell me if I'm in already?!"
-
when it comes to e-mailing DGS people to try and get info, what approach to you folks take? or do you avoid it entirely?
-
Thanks! I caved and sent him an e-mail myself just now in a fit of impulsive excitement...so hopefully I'll have good news by tomorrow morning
-
and this was recently I take it? be sure to post in here when you get your acceptance so I can know whether or not to get my hopes up!
-
hey carrie, i see you crossed Temple off of your list and got an unofficial acceptance - did you contact them or they you? i haven't heard anything and am wondering what that means

wait are you saying rochester international is NOT a major airport? i, for one, am offended sir
-
i'd invest in a pair of hiking boots, for starters
-
to hell with charts, i want long transcripts with lots of "[sic]" thrown around in my appendices

what about the argument that doing real history IS art?!

Alright, well with today's Columbia massacre I'm through all my "maybe, just maybe I'll get in to this place if I apply!" schools and have only good fits remaining that has to mean something, right? RIGHT?
-
and it's officially after 5pm on the east coast, so it looks like another week with no acceptances. here's hoping none of my remaining schools pull a northwestern-style sunday evening nightmare. congratulations on getting in History Time! even a "backup school" is better than no school at all, and a huge compliment to your abilities

I don't think so, and I'm sure you're not the only one to contact them. And if an administrator or a graduate director rolls their eyes privately, they would most likely never chastise you for it. Worst that happens is they don't respond or respond saying "We don't have a decision yet and will let you know by the end of March", best is you have some new information you wouldn't have had otherwise. I just wouldn't contact my POI because I'm trying to make as positive an impression as possible, and don't want to come across as pestering. With anyone else, that isn't really an issue.
-
i'd contact someone in the office or the DGS before i'd contact my POI
-
at least they encourage us to continue our interest in history. i wasn't going to, but since i have their encouragement...
-
yeah it looks like i'm destined to move back to my northeastern homeland, despite my best efforts to try new places
-
Here come the Stanford rejects...I didn't REALLY expect to get in, so I feel better about this one than I did Northwestern. Honestly, I'm just happy to have another result so I can stop wondering.
-
congrats czesc, i'm thrilled you finally got in somewhere!

As a follow up to my last post, I just e-mailed the graduate director myself asking, basically, "If I haven't gotten an acceptance e-mail yet, is it safe to assume i'm not going to?" and he said that while it's too soon to know for sure, the assumption is probably correct. He also followed up with a nice e-mail telling me that my application was excellent and my POI was impressed with my record and that this was an "unbelievably" deep year in my field, so not to take it too harshly. Anyway, sorry for the conflicting reports, hope this helps someone else out there.

i just got more news for anyone applying to Davis: a friend of mine applied and saw her appilcation status still said "incomplete," so she e-mailed the graduate chair asking what's up and he said that decisions have been made but the majority of acceptences have not yet been informed due to funding complications. so if anyone (like me) has not yet heard and is getting a little worried, don't fret yet as you still have hope! PS she also found out she got in, which i thought was a nice coda to this tale
-
anyone else watching the results page and thinking, "Hm, yeah, I could get a PHD in HATS from MIT, that might be a good plan..."?
-
a big morning, hopefully a big afternoon too? maybe?
-
another day, another dearth of news...*sigh*

i knew i'd get called out on throwing iowa around like that let me be clear, i by no means am disparaging iowa, but i'm sure the UofI's satellite campus in Podunksville is nothing special
-
Gotcha. Yeah, I totally know what you mean - the notion of moving from Denver (where I am now) to Bangor, Maine (for instance) is a little weird for me but it's the life we chose, right? Just wait until our only job offers are to University of Iowa - Podunksville (and we're thrilled to accept them!).
