  1. Well, the excruciating wait is finally over! CGS-D for 3 years . First time applying to doctoral competition, but currently hold a CGS-M. Starting PhD this fall! good luck to all those still waiting!
  2. @FacelessMage I agree with all previous posters that you should keep it to the point. I also agree there is no harm (and perhaps great benefit) in putting yourself out there. on another note, it seems I am one of the only ones still stalking the mail man...
  3. Congrats @Sevenoffs! Nothing in Vancouver as of yet... Hopefully tomorrow.
  4. Congrats @johnjam! Sorry to hear that, @mckinnon42. Rejection always stings. The incoming results here all seem to be indicate a high rate of success for applicants in their third year though! Here's hoping third time is the charm for you! If letters arrived to Alberta yesterday I am even more hopeful they will arrive in Vancouver today. I don't want to have to wait it out for yet another weekend....
  5. Congrats @JimJamJumal ! I was just reading the Award Holder's guide (because what else is there to read when you still havn't received the letter...) and apparently SSHRC offers paid parental leaves, which I assume extend your fellowship and add to the total amount. I am highly impressed that they support their researchers in that way. Unless I'm reading it wrong. Has anyone requested this before?
  6. Congrats to the recent winners in this thread! @rabellos, I have not yet heard and I also am in the lower mainland, though to be fair I have not sent an email asking my institution either. I figure I'll bite my nails until the letter arrives. I am more of a visual person anyways, and seeing the letter will make it more real - whatever the outcome. No mail today, however... Hoping for tomorrow but betting on Friday. Edited to ask: Do the official letters provide a ranking as well as a score? (i.e. if you are waitlisted do you have somewhat of an idea of your standing?)
  7. Many congrats @cadash! I have a feeling it will be a long week here out west. I am not holding my breath for a letter before Friday...
  8. A HUGE Congrats @Anthrogal and @Lanie! What a great way to go into the weekend. It is surreal to think that the long wait is (almost) over. I am still waiting over here in Western Canada.
  9. I was wondering the same @biggoalies! My best guess would be a duration of 3 years... But that's a shot in the dark. edited to add that perhaps D3 signifies the committee /topic?
  10. Do they announce on twitter when they mail them out? I agree with @rugox. I am betting on this Friday as the mail-out date, though that means they may not even arrive by next Friday. More than anything I am getting nervous for the individual score (as opposed to the ultimate offered/not offered!).
  11. Thanks for the update, @crimsoc . I've heard from our University Admins that they are expecting the news in late April, so it seems mid-April notifications are not even on the table. And I assume next week still qualifies as "mid" April...
  12. I agree with everyone above - my nerves have definitely kicked in since seeing the calendar change to April. Only a few "short" (haha) weeks until we find out. Best of luck to all! I am west coast so I will likely be one of the last to receive the letter.
  13. Don't give up yet, @nuih. I do believe there is a strong chance of getting off the waitlist, and from what I have seen in prior years there is quite a lot of movement from the waitlist in April as some people are awarded 3-5 SSHRCs and end up declining all but one. I was waitlisted last year (and experienced the same mixed feelings you are describing, but take heart! That is still a huge compliment in and of itself. But yes, it also comes with disappointment) but within 7 days I received another email about a status change and lo and behold I was awarded a CGS-M in the program that I was currently enrolled in! Good luck to all - and also a head's up, if the online portal works the same as in previous years, "April 1st" refers to 12:00am Eastern Canada Time. Thus if you are west coast your results could be in the portal at 8pm on March 31st!
  14. Hello flamenco, I happened to email SSHRC yesterday with this exact question as I will likely be a January 2017 start to my doctoral program. I will not even apply to my program (that which has forwarded my app to the national competition) until June/July. Thus, I will not have "unconditional acceptance" until September or later. The reply that I got from SSHRC was "You will need to have official acceptance into the doctoral program before the start date of your award." Thus, I believe the award holder's guide is for exactly that: award holders. The date you start the award is when those guidelines must be closely followed. I hope this helps! P.S. I'm in Vancouver anxiously awaiting the results as well! Good luck to all.
