  1. I'm sure you can skip housing tour and lunch. Mount Sinai says dinner and escape room thing on the second day and the housing tour are all optional. So that means Weill is probably done sending invites breaks my heart
  2. Congrats!! Hope they aren't done sending invites..
  3. I just checked my UW MCB application and it says - the program is anticipating making decisions by end of February which is fine but what about interviews? Decisions are interviews at this point no one cares about final decisions..
  4. Not that there is anything wrong with midwest if anyone is wondering. I've had a lovely time in both Chicago and Iowa City doing summer research at the University of Iowa. Both great places with top notch research. Downtown Chicago is gorgeous as well and I really like the Northwestern medical campus. It's very sleek and modern. I have just never lived on the east coast and want to experience what that's like. I sacrificed my chances by not applying to many great schools here like Wisconsin-Madison, Minnesota, Iowa and Chicago schools.
  5. I just flew from O'Hare to Munich yesterday (currently stuck at the airport my flight home got delayed) and my friend literally dropped me off right outside Lufthansa departures so I needed like 15-20 seconds tops to make my way inside and I thought I was dying during that time. My whole body froze and I had to pull out my heat pad to warm my fingers. I believe it was below -30F with windchill.
  6. Nope I didn't apply but I'm doing my undergrad at UChicago. No idea what's going on. Trying to get out of the midwest here
  7. I heard Cornell Weill last week from someone here. Not sure where the information came from but seems logical
  8. Thanks for sharing your perspective! I've also heard from my friend who just interviewed there for medical school that student housing is amazing. He also interviewed at Cornell Weill and NYU and said Sinai housing is superb compared to other NYC schools (and super cheap I think if I remember correctly).
  9. Do you go to Mt. Sinai? I'm pretty pumped for my visit (Jan 19th-20th). I think it's a program I'll really like. I've heard from some people that competition among students and overall atmosphere in the PhD program is less cut-throat than other NYC and east coast top-tier schools.
  10. I know a professor in micro and I asked him because my friend was also waiting to hear back after I got my invite. Sorry if that's bad news but UPenn should still be sending out invites I believe! I hope we hear back this week today/tomorrow.
  11. What sivis said. Mt. Sinai has already sent out all the invites. Still no word from UPenn... or Yale
  12. OMG I applied to MMPP too!! Congrats Now I'm freaked out
  13. Do you think calling would not bug them? Many applicants who haven't heard might be calling them. I'm leaving the country tonight so I can't call them as conveniently as I can now and I really want to but I don't wanna bother them too much.
  14. No because someone posted that Kathy got back to them saying they are still sending out invites. I don't want to bug them.
  15. Yeah but those 3-4 year programs in Europe only publish in SNC. So one Nature first author > 4 PNAS papers. The PI that I'm interested in at Vienna has like 7 publications throughout her life but she has Nature and Science first authors. Those overweight just papers that you get your name on through being in lab for 6 years.
  16. What about Vienna Biocenter and EMBL programs then. They technically require masters but they say you need a degree that qualifies you to enter a PhD program in the country where you got the degree. I have an interview coming up in Vienna at the Institute of Molecular Pathology and it's a 3-4 year program fully funded. It's one of the best programs in the world as far as the impact of publications, amount of funding, facilities and caliber of scientists and group leaders. You pick a PI even before you start research. The PI I want to work with Skype interviewed me prior. It's a little sketchy though what if you don't get along with that PI but if you get lucky it's better than spending 5-6 years on your degree
  17. Andrew Hu should be the chair of cancer bio admissions this year He's at Wistar. Last year it was Dr. Wellen and she told me to contact Dr. Hu for this year
  18. I just heard from administration telling me my official GRE scores just went through and my application is technically 'ready for review' but Dr. Hu told me they only needed unofficial self-reported GRE scores for initial review so now I'm wondering if they even reviewed my application
  19. I honestly didn't apply to Sloan Kettering because their application was super confusing and annoying. Congrats to everyone who got invites today!
  20. They said west coasters can have hotel for 3 nights. Not a west coaster here but no flights from ORD on the 19th get to NYC before noon so I asked for a hotel. I wonder if they'll give it to me. Anyone in the same situation?
  21. Please let me know when she responds and if she says they are done I won't bother by calling tomorrow.
  22. Will do! I am usually not this anxious about anything. I knew Mt. Sinai was coming but I didn't get nearly as nervous. I am most excited about UPenn because there are so many faculty with similar research interests. If I knew I had a guaranteed interview, I would honestly only apply to UPenn. It's such a dream match for me. It will be very heartbreaking if I don't get an interview
  23. Calling UPenn tomorrow might be a good idea. I'll give it until 4 pm ET tomorrow.
  24. Yale allows applicants to change personal statements and resumes and other 'extra' materials till Dec. 15th so I'm assuming the committee is not meeting before then.
