I respectfully and deeply disagree. People earned their time to decide longer if the school offers that to them.
Your comment undermines the fact that every applicant who received an invitation earned that opportunity. There are surprises and many things to consider once all the offers are in. But most importantly, this is an endeavor each of us individually are pursuing that which most of us will only get to try once. We would be cheating ourselves if we don't consider all of our options carefully.
Getting on the waitlist is amazing, and congratulations for making onto it. A lot of people would appreciate that peace of mind that their work is respected at their dream school.

The rejection letter was in my spam folder  ! It's okay. I got into VSC but had to turn it down because I was flying to interviews. I'm going to London in the fall for Slade so I doubt I'd have the time or money to do Skowheagan. Guess I'll reapply after school ?

I vote UCLA because of your funding and Rodney McMillian (never met him, just like his work) Also, I was told that the first year fellowship can be extended (?)
If the funding at Columbia is as good then there is a problem that might best be resolved via coin flip.

Congrats on the UCLA offer! If the fellowship is good, I wouldn't hesitate to take it, tbh.

Accepted to Purchase - don't know about any funding yet but totally psyched for this program and pretty sure I'll accept even if I hear nice things from the last two pending applications I have out. After tour, multiple phone calls, conversations with current faculty, current students and alumni, I can check off every box on my list of expectations. Facilities, support, proximity to Manhattan without the prohibitive/ridiculous cost of NYC, Interdisciplinary, pedagogical studies, social practice and especially the dual degree MA/MFA. And also, they were nice to me, remembered our conversations and referenced my work (even one of the 2nd year MFA canditates knew my work) which tells me they care about the community and that is important to me.

I had a conversation with an international student last year who told me how she had earned a degree in finance at a US college but took a few art courses as electives. After graduation she knew she wanted to persue her practice. She took a year to compile a portfolio and applied to 13 MFA programs, was rejected from 11 and interviewed at 2. She was happy with her MFA experience was going at Hunter and suggested I apply. I did and I was rejected. Next month, I will have a BFA. Her story was and is inspiring to me as it is evidence of opportunities being available where I may have though there weren't. The fact that I wasn't accepted does not change that because she was and thats the proof.

I kinda wanna interject my input on the awesome conversation of post undergrad academia continuation but I think everything has been said. I will say though that I'm doing the same thing and I'm even in debate of leaving my dream job (currently working as a Short From coordinator for Super Deluxe) to continue my education but I'm okay with that. The way I've looked at it over the past year before I even applied was that I wanted to weigh my privilege of being abled to study and be a member of higher education over the things that I'm comfortable with now. Not everyone gets the chance to even finish their undergrad. I know some applicants here are 30+ but I'm 24 and I have CLOSE friends that have two children right now and it scares the shit out of me (not to undermine though who study and have kids because holy shit... those are some fucking epic people. I just know how difficult it gets balancing a family, academics, and everyday life). So when I started thinking about taking time off versus working through the sleepless nights just a little longer I thought it would be a great option considering that I transferred to CalArts as a third year so I'd be doing my BFA and MFA within 4 years time. So I respect everything that everyone has said but I think it REALLY depends on individual situations and it's never going to be an easy decision.

Saw that some of you posted about age. I just turned 40!! Although I'm a very young 40 ? I waited to apply until now mostly due to $$ and I just wasn't ready yet (mentally)...and I had worked for many years in Chicago for other artists post completing my BFA and it took me a while to find my own "voice" and be able to have a disciplined studio practice. But I have to say I'm highly insecure that age was and will be a huge handicap for me in the eyes of admissions committees.
Also - anyone who applied to Glasgow School of Art. It's an amazing city and school! Plus the city is more affordable compared to others - like London. I'm thinking of applying there next year as my father's family is from there and I have dual citizenship.

Yup, me. I'm over 40 and couldn't be more excited about committing to an MFA and dedicating all day everyday (except when I'm at day job) to my practice. My profs and peers have all been supportive and advisers tell me not to hide, but to put forward my age as it helps with configuring a diverse cohort - life experience and all that. And I'm not even  the oldest kid in my undergrad program. If I don't find a program this round I'll try again. One of my fave profs got his MFA at 51 and his career is growing to the point where he has difficultly finding time to take teaching gigs. Of course multiple rounds without being selected will test the most resolute, no shame in voicing that aggravation, but I concur: age really isn't a concern

This is me. I had a year between undergrad and grad school (M.A.). No way I would have gotten into MFA programs at that point, had only been seriously into my medium (photography) during college and was trying to do it commercially right off the bat. I learned that, while it's great in some ways, I wanted more. 8 years later, mid thirties and finally starting my MFA in the fall. Thrilled about it, but because only I finally have a better sense of purpose with my work. I spent a lot of my MA program quietly rebelling against some of the dogma taught there, because I realized it wasn't a great fit in the first term, but I wasn't sure what was a good fit. I had full tuition waiver and stipend so I stayed and grew on my own terms, but it took a good 5-7 years after that before I felt like my voice started to solidify as an artist. Others will vary, but life experience inevitably will affect your work, and usually for the better.
The one caveat is that I don't know that I regret my first grad school, in that I did make lifelong friends and definitely grew personally - but I ultimately did not pursue the path that the program was intended for. I am quite thankful now that I didn't get a terminal degree - though at the time I was frustrated about it. It kept the door open for me.
That said, I think this poster may have been completing undergrad later in life, so it might be a different scenario.

But that is great that you even got all these interviews if you are still in Undergrad! Waiting won't be bad at all, it will only make your work stronger. Hope Glasgow or Purchase will bring you good news anyway. Always nice with some confirmations. And Glasgow is such a great school!
I don't know why UCLA is taking so long to distribute the rejections. I saw that Poodle Doodle got his acceptance a couple of weeks ago so in one hand I can imagine now they are sending rejections and at best waitlisted? If anyone has been accepted to UCLA, please share it here? So nervous here.

Same here!! I am still in undergrad as well and I also applied to 9 programs this round. Having been lurking in this thread for many weeks and i finally decide to share something when I see someone is in very similar situation with me.
I am international and have never studied in US before. Also my undergrad degree is on film directing, and the education is in a very traditional way( more focused on narrating a story), while I'm more interested in experimental films/video arts and art. So deciding to get a mfa in fine arts is a very important and seems urgent thing for me. I mostly applied to new genres in those programs, with a portfolio of some performances I did earlier last year, some paintings and drawings I made around the main philosophy I'm focusing on, some sculptures I made during a summer school in UK, and videos I made during undergrad. I'm already having a very clear purpose or philosophy in my art that I want to pursue and go on to study. So I always think a program in a university would best fit my needs, in that way I can go on to study all the knowledges(like some of my works are very psychology-related) that I need (with instructions) to make my art.
Anyway, I got rejected by UCLA today.
    Interviewed with Parsons and SVA.
And haven't heard a word from all the other schools, so I assumed all rejections.
I quite like the faculty of parsons, they really gave me the feeling that they understand what I am doing( which is so important to me) and they were all very nice and polite.
But I am giving a lot of thoughts recent days on whether I should have a mfa this soon. Whether should I have more social experiences and do more arts then to do this, as KatieB1987 has said. Although I do want to get away from the environment I'm living in now, which is another important factor that I want to study abroad.
I guess there is a big chance that I would reapply next year. But It's so nice to speak here and have all you guys' company during this anxious waiting time. And I have learnt a lot from your previous posts. Good luck with everyone's applications and hope you make awesome arts!

Hearing that you're applying while still in undergrad compels me to tell you that literally every single person I know who went directly to grad school after undergrad regrets that decision. Three of them have gone to grad school a second time in their 30s so they could get a more solid experience. You may feel ready and motivated and so pumped to dive in, but as someone who seriously considered doing that, I cannot tell you enough how grateful I am for waiting and getting years of experience in "the real world". My work has dramatically changed, I'm more informed towards what I want out of graduate school, I've had the experience of balancing work and a studio practice, and I've gotten to work as a studio assistant for artists who have given me invaluable advice. Also, it's super important to make work removed from the atmosphere of an academic setting. Just saying. Don't go just because you want to streamline your education. A professor of mine said one should never go to grad school "until they're thirsty for it".
As you said, you feel your work is already stronger now than when you applied... that can only continue to happen. And if affordability is an issue for you, you're far more likely to get funding as a more competitive applicant with stronger work. I don't want to influence you too much, but, it's a major life decision and there's nothing worse than regret... especially when it comes with a financial burden. I wish you the best!

Also I just saw a few of you posting about age -- don't get hung up on it. I've met plenty of artists in MFA programs who were 40+ years old. It's really not out of the ordinary at all.
