Fall 2010 Admitted/Rejected Thread
stucktomyshoe replied to agh423's topic in Government Affairs Forum
Program Applied To: MPP Schools Applied To: Sanford Duke, Michigan Ford, Georgetown GPPI, Berkeley GSPP, Harvard Kennedy School Schools Admitted To: Sanford Duke, Michigan Ford, Georgetown GPPI Schools Rejected From: GSPP, HKS Decision: Ford School, because I was getting more $ from them Undergraduate institution: Top research university Undergraduate GPA: 3.49 Last 60 hours of Undergraduate GPA (if applicable): 3.6 Undergraduate Major: Sociology GRE Quantitative Score: 650 GRE Verbal Score: 730 GRE AW Score: 5 Years Out of Undergrad (if applicable): 3 years Years of Work Experience: 3 Describe Relevant Work Experience: 2 years working in city government Strength of SOP (be honest, describe the process, etc): I think this was pretty good, though I could have spent more time on it. I especially could have spent more time on my HKS statements--I was being lazy and didn't really take too much time on it. My advice is that if you're going to spend around $75-$100 to apply somewhere, give it your absolute best shot. Strength of LOR's (be honest, describe the process, etc): I think they were all very strong--one was from a professor who was my advisor, teacher, and employer. One was from my current supervisor, and another was from a woman I had done advocacy work with. Other: When you apply, keep the strength of possible funding a consideration. -
I went to Friday's Spring Preview and thought it was done well and pretty informative. I was unable to attend the second day though. What did you guys think? Any new insights? Is it helping you make a decision?

Also, is anyone who's been admitted still waiting on their financial aid package, or anything in the mail? This is getting ridiculous.

I started apartment hunting in AA on Saturday, and there was an apartment I really liked. The only thing was that it has no A/C--how essential do you current AA residents think A/C is? There's a good chance I won't be in AA in the summer, but am a little worried that I won't be able to sublet a unit without A/C in the summer.

I got an email from admissions today saying, "The scholarship committee will make additional scholarship offers. These decisions will be made near the April 15th deposit deadline."
-
Just got an email about the 3/29 scholarship round--didn't get anything.
-
Still nothing--and we're supposed to make a decision in 2 weeks?
-
So far Georgetown has been the absolute worst at giving me information...sigh.
-
Has anyone who sent in a scholarship essay that was due 3/23 heard anything back yet? We were supposed to hear something today, but it's already 3 pm EST... I'm antsy to hear how much I'll be getting so I can just make a decision already!
-
I'm still waiting to hear officially that GPPI (MPP) isn't giving me much money, but I've pretty much decided I'm going to the Ford School (full ride + stipend).

For those of you who have gotten something in the mail already, was financial aid info included? All I'm waiting for before I make a decision is to hear from is how much money I'll be getting from GPPI.
-
I'll be there.
-
My financial aid award was also half my need--it's all loans (and a work study offer). I think the fellowship/merit-based awards will be coming from the program itself, not from the Financial Aid office.
-
I just wanted to let you all know--I logged into Wolverine Access and randomly decided to see if they updated my financial aid links--and they did with loan/work study information. If you want to see how much aid you got, you guys should try logging in and see if it shows up.

I just declined my Sanford offer (MPP) and will be declining GPPI (MPP). -
I got an email about the scholarship essay yesterday--I was going to send in a one page single spaced essay--748 words--too long?
-
In my fellowship email, they said that "Students who have already completed a FAFSA will receive notification from the Office of Financial Aid at the University of Michigan regarding their financial aid award." So I think you all should be getting something soon!
-
Did you wife apply for an MPP?
-
I got mine at 2:08 pm CST--so I guess maybe it was a batch email?
-
I'm getting a full scholarship too! In total shock right now.
-
I got an email from them today that started with "Congratulations again on your admission to the Georgetown Public Policy Institute. We received a record number of applicants this year..." Just tell me how much money I'm getting!
-
I've been having trouble getting information too--I've emailed Emmitt Griffin twice already asking him when we'd know about funding, but no reply.
-
I got an email yesterday saying I was admitted. After you posted asking about wolverine, I logged into see if anything changed.

There is a new link for me that says "View Admissions status." Back in mid-January, I noticed that it said my transcript hadn't been received, so I emailed Admissions to ask them about it. They updated it the next day.
