Have you taken the GRE/what is your score? Also, what programs or research areas are you looking for?

You sound competitive at least based on this.

    Thanks for your reply.

No I have not taken the GRE. Would Magoosh be a good program to rely on?

Some of my research interests are cultural competent interventions, neuroscience,  and severe and persistent mental illnesses. So far, the only professor that I have found that is a perfect fit is at the University of Southern California (which would be my #1 choice). I know I need to apply to several other programs to be safe.

Thank you Hk328! I did not know that about for profit schools.

  2. Hello all!

I was hoping to know if I stand a chance for clinical psychology programs and if I should even bother applying at all!

Education: Undergrad BA in Psychology and Human Development (cumulative: 3.56); Master in Social Work (gpa: 3.98)

Research: 1 year in a Culture and Social Development Lab (2 posters & team leader for one of the studies); 1 year in a Forensic Neuroscience lab conducting neuropsychology assessments (1 poster); 1 year in a Serious Mental Illness Lab (1 publication in progress)

Experience: 1 year working in a mental state hospital; 1 year working in an outpatient psychiatry clinic;  2 years working as a TA for a statistics course

Honor Awards: 8 total awards accumulated from both undergrad and masters

    Thanks in advance! ?

I spoke to USC again today. They said they are still reviewing applications and that we will be notified either way (that we will receive or not receive the deans scholarship).

    Thanks for the updates!

I'm with you on that! Crossing my fingers for scholarship (I was told we will find out this week) if we are recipients of scholarship.

For the Philanthropic or Dean's scholarship?

Because last week I was notified that I was selected as a MSW recipient with an award of $15,000. Maybe you'll receive one as well! :)

  5. Hey, congrats!

USC was the only school I applied to and got in. However, I have decided to face the tuition charges because in the end only you can make that choice. I didn't apply anywhere else because I couldn't see myself happy at another school. Also, I have looked into the program and I am very interested in getting involved in clubs and research projects.

So it is really up to you!

@12sliders Best luck to you!!! I believe you can get in!!! I haven't accepted the offer yet. I also applied to UCLA and I am still waiting for the result. USC is expensive and I want to delay my decision until I receive more information about scholarships.

@TAN_491 They sent me an email inviting me to apply to the Dean's Leadership Scholarship. Besides that, I haven't received information about any other scholarship by far. How about you?

Nope, I'm pretty bummed out. At the info session they said that once a person is admitted, you will know on that same day if you received the MSW Scholarship award, which is awarded to you based on your overall application. I honestly thought I would have received some funding, oh well.

Thanks! I applied for the two-year on-campus program.

I wonder did anybody ask for an extended time to reply to the acceptance? I think the default response time is two weeks.

I didn't ask for an extended time, I just accepted the offer. However, i am pretty sure they'll give you an extension.

Also, I'm curious, did they inform you if you received any scholarships?

    Hi all,

I applied in December and got an email requesting an interview online with pre-recorded questions. Has anyone been interviewed? What does an interview mean? I didn't know USC requires interviews and I'm kinda nervous right now.

That's odd, I didn't know they did that either. :/ Good luck though!

Hey I applied to USC for their MSW program on January 20th, 2017. Received a notification that my application is under review right now and they'll let me know in 2-4 months. Hopefully they reach an early decision. My stats aren't that great. 2.8 GPA, being a bio major screwed me over. But I'm a super strong writer so hopefully my personal statement, letters of rec and experience redeem me in some ways, made the dean's list in my last two semesters so hopefully they notice all of this. Wish you the best of luck!

When I spoke to the admissions counselor she said that they take into consideration your GPA for your last 60 semester units and major GPA. Also, she said that we would hear a decision between mid January and early February, so it should be anytime soon I hope! Last year applicants heard as early as February 2, I'm so nervous!

Anyone else applying to University of Southern California and concerned about the price?

Hi there! I applied to USC in October. I am hoping to receive some scholarships because the admissions counselor told me over the phone that the sooner you apply the more chances you have of receiving them. However, I am still worried since this is the only school i applied to :/

Good Luck....I am applying to CSULB, CSUF, CSUDH and CSUN.  Have you turn in your application yet? Let keep each other updates....Goodluck again!

Yes I have, but I decided to just apply to USC. I turned in my applications about a month ago. How about you?

  12. Hello all,

I submitted my application on 10/17. I sent my transcripts on 10/20 and was just wondering if anyone knows if I will receive a notification when my application is complete or under faculty review?

    Thanks in advance!

  13. Hello,

You have nothing to worry about! Your GPA is really high and you have plenty of experience. All that you would need to focus on is writing a personal statement, but I am positive that you will get in! :D Also, I am worried about getting into USC (MSW/PhD Dual Program) and CSULB (MSW) . My stats are:

Cumulative GPA: 3.45; Human Development GPA:3.81; Psychology GPA: 3.54

Received a B in Stats and also took Advanced Stats and received a B as well.

I have been volunteering for 7 months at a State Mental Hospital and shadow and assist Social Workers, Psychologists and Psychiatrists.

I am a Research Lab assistant for a Developmental Psychology lab that focuses on children's gender, ethnicity, and culture.

Also, I am Research Lab Assistant in a Neuroscience and Forensic Psychology lab.

Was a Statistics Assistant for a professor in the Human Development department.

Was a volunteer/mentor for an organizations that helps low income children.

Can anyone please give me any feedback? :(
