<U of Toronto> informal acceptance from Prof. means admission?
rojano replied to Pacific.O's topic in Interviews and Visits
Dear Pacific, Was it necessary to contact a professor before application? Because the prof I was gonna contact at u of t is on leave until December and on the website it's written that students apply directly to the department while people say there's a little chance of admission without cobtacting! What did the website of your department say? How many publications did you have on your résumé? -
knowing and emailing to request an appointment
rojano replied to rojano's topic in Interviews and Visits
The professor whom I wanted to contact and who has the same interests as mine is on leave until December should I still email her and ask for apoointment? Or should I drop the idea of appointment? Will she answer when she's on leave? What should I do? U of toronto says applicants should apply directly, is there a chance if I do so? -
Hi all. One of the prefessors at university of toronto had the same interests as I do. I was gonna email her to as for a personal appointment, but it seems she's on leave until December. Do you think I should still email her and mention the request for appointment or email her without mentioning this? Will she ever answer? Do I need to contact a supervisor before application or apply directly to the appartment? I was very hopeful to be able to contact her!! What should I do now?!!!

Do I need to contact the professors before applying to phd at University of Toronto?? Coz the website says we should apply directly, but my friends say to talk to a supervisor first. Does anyone know which works better? -

hi everyone. How would you start to email a POI the first time? what would you say in your email if you'd like to meet them in person? I'm veryyyyy stressed out? when should I start emailing?
-
hey guys, I would like to know how I might be able to find what professors are on the admission committee. And I want to email them to ask for a one-on-one meeting? Does that sound like a sensible idea? What should I write in my email? When should I start emailing? How many articles are enough on resume to start?

I'm gonna apply to the University of Toronto for Comparative Literature and I'm almost freaking out.

What writing sample to use
rojano replied to AnimeChic101!'s topic in Literature, and Rhetoric and Composition
So guys, it wouldn't be necessary for the writing sample to be in line with the prpposed thesis? And should we be specific about what we're gonna do in phd or is it subject to change? -

Hi, thanks for the helpful email. Don't you think October/November is late for this? Will you please say if we need to ask for empty positions in the email or not? I mean what the content and the subject of the email should be to persuade a professor to open and read it?

Questions for Toronto Grad Students
rojano replied to CakeForBreakfast's topic in Literature, and Rhetoric and Composition
I would like to apply to Comparative Literature for fall 2017 and I am a permanent resident of Canada living in Toronto. I have A- GPA (3.7 out of 4) and a refereed published article out of my M.A thesis, a presented article in an International conference, and I am working on 2 more articles at the moment. I am a fluent speaker of Persian. My Academic IELTS is 7.5 and I know French at upper-intermediate proficiency levels. I know German and Spanish at elementary levels. I am still studying my French, Spanish and German. Do you think I have any chances to get accepted with funding? Some of my friends tell me to email the professors and ask for appointments. They say it will work better than just applying to the department directly without talking to a supervisor. What's your idea? I don't know what to write to them to get an appointment. I don't know what the subject of my email should be. Is it bad to go to university without emailing them first? I would appreciate that if you would help me with these questions and guide me even about the things I should know.
