if I don't receive any response by April I might resort to sending emails to admission office of my application decisions. I can't bear to wait that long...

Just got an email from one of my classmates, asking me about assignment format, etc. Apparently he never reads directions or comes to class.

One of the schools I applied to has said several times (on their website, in mass emails, in personal emails, etc.) that they will send admissions decisions by May 13, which is next Saturday, but they're also on spring break all week. Based on previous years' admissions results, it looks like they will actually stick to this deadline, so I guess that means someone is working this week.
haha i hope you meant march 13, because May 13 will be very cruel time for decisions to arrive.

I'm guessing they probably won't send (very few if any) decision emails out during spring break but immediately before and towards the end (around sunday-ish) who knows?

Well, if I'm not accepted anywhere for this fall, I certainly have time for more interesting job or research experiences, and plus additional time for traveling. hopefully a chance to visit Europe?!?!
-
Oh man, this is crazy! I'm really sorry to hear this... you and your husband definitely deserve some explanations from those people!!

Man, seems like everyone's receiving decision in march except for me. I only received one decision in february (rejection) and still heard no news from other schools at all... any chance they might stay working during weekend and email out decisions???

I just wanted to share with the forum, particularly because I have seen quite a few posts where people seem to be down on their chances/themselves. Last year I was rejected across the board. (My stats are pretty average so it wasn't entirely a surprise.) While it was incredibly depressing, I decided it was still a dream I really wanted to pursue. So I retook GREs (after actually studying), got new recommendations, and got some relevant work experience. I also reevaluated the schools and programs I was applying to for a better fit, and spent many many hours on my SOP. I finally got good news this week. I am in at two schools so far - and one has even offered me a TAship. So, while I know its crushing that things didn't go well this application round - do NOT let it ruin things for you!! Keep your head up - you are intelligent, there are things you can change about application to make it better, and the graduate admissions process is part luck anyway. Please do not let it discourage you.
Thank you so much for the encouragement! I feel that if I'm not admitted anywhere this fall, I am prepared to do better job with polishing my applications as well as more time to search for other exciting programs, since after this spring I won't have school to worry about, as I'm graduating. Thank you again for the encouragement!

Ugh I kind of regret mentioning what schools i have applied to my friends; now whenever i see them one of the questions they ask is "so have you heard back from any schools yet?"
so far I haven't heard any except one (rejection), but this waiting business is tormenting me... and I have to worry about finding a job if I face rejection from everywhere... I'm glad that I have friends and family giving me support but the possibility of not getting in anywhere is simply scary.

Is anyone still getting promotional emails from schools encouraging you to apply?! I am....wtf?
Yep, I am... I receive them once every week. SO ANNOYING.
-
Man I envy all of you with acceptances to Columbia.... it is my top choice and I'm still waiting for its decision.... if I'm very lucky I might be able to join you guys in fantastic NYC. Nevertheless congrats to all of you!

ARRGHHH irrelevant emails are SO ANNOYING!!!! Mainly I've been getting useless emails from my discussion section TAs and some instructors regarding assignment submission, this week's schedule, late policy, all that junk which is all covered on syllabus, but they keep sending it because NOBODY in my classes read syllabus carefully.
And of course, there's my major advisor who never stop sending strings of emails (average 5-6 times per day) about research opportunities I'm not even interested in. I've already had several full-time research experiences and have applied to four internships this summer, so no thanks, I don't need any, stop flooding my inbox.
And occasional emails from the dean of college or the chancellor about recent events on campus, protests, budget crisis, etc. Seriously, I'm graduating this May, I COULD CARE LESS.
And emails from athletic department about upcoming events such as boxing match between us and this other school, etc. I. DON'T. CARE.
I have disabled all email notifications from facebook, twitter, and other networking applications.
I lost count of how many emails I've deleted in just past three days.

i got my first rejection letter in mid-february (also the only school I've applied that has responded so far). Waiting for other schools' decisions, whether they are acceptances or denials...
Man I just want the decisions to arrive already; I've been checking my email constantly in past couple weeks and at this rate, I'll never finish my take-home midterm and other assignments due tomorrow...
-
Darn, I'm sorry to hear that. Nevertheless, you sound optimistic, so I'm sure you'll end up somewhere in future. Good luck!

If I'm admitted for fall 2010 PhD programs, I'll be 23 when starting grad school.
-
Congrats on your acceptance!!! That's fantastic. I'm still waiting for JHU's response... perhaps it won't be long until I receive their decision email or something.... if I'm admitted I might join you. Keeping my fingers crossed....

Seriously, I can't wish for anything but replies to come sooner!!!! Waiting is killing me.
Oh and I hope that my next rejection letters attached in emails will be named better than "Refusal Letter" which I thought was bit harsh (that was for Cornell, which I got denied three weeks ago).
Spring Break
in Waiting it Out

Well, my spring break is the last week of March, so I REALLY hope I'll receive all decisions before then. Otherwise I'll have to expect unpleasant, or, if I'm lucky, very pleasant gifts after the break.
