  1. @bluet and the one other person I saw applying to Poland. Go ahead and put your names on it as well I know looking at previous years spreadsheets helped me so I know it'll help next year's applicants.
  2. Good luck to you as well! Let us know how it went!
  3. My interview is tomorrow to 8:30. But I know @Mossy.artisthas had hers. From my understanding, none of the questions are in Polish and there are no curve ball questions that you wouldn't expect. What time is your interview?
  4. I feel so bad for the refugees and visa holders being detained at our airports. I also just found out that in retaliation, Iran has banned all US residents from the country. I have a feeling other middle eastern countries will follow suit. I hope the people who applied for these countries for the fulbright are still able to go. though that seems like a small problem compared to all of what is happening. This isn't the America I know and love.
  5. The entire senior staff and specialists resigned. :/ https://www.google.com/amp/s/www.washingtonpost.com/amphtml/news/josh-rogin/wp/2017/01/26/the-state-departments-entire-senior-management-team-just-resigned/
  6. I'm still happy to practice. I can send you my Skype information.
  7. This is very comforting as I've been a big ball of stress. Lol. As for the Trump question, if it is asked, I just plan to talk about the feeling of partisan divisiveness that has grown in our country to what we see today. I don't know that they will ask that though. Kind of like how people are taught as children that they can't always get everything they want and they have to find a middle ground, but for some reason that sentiment has been lost in our politics over the last decade or two. I have to agree with this. I know that I would not be able to speak the entire interview in Polish, despite speaking it every day in my own home. We don't talk politics in Polish or other business topics so I'm lacking in that area. But I think preparing a just in case paragraph describing who you are as a person and what your interests are is a good idea to demonstrate capabilities.
  8. Yea. I spoke to a previous Poland interviewee and she told me she had no Polish experience but none of her interview was held in Polish. Imy a heritage speaker like yourself, but there are many things I don't understand. I can't talk political in Polish for instance. But I've prepared statements in Polish to say to them so they can get a feel for my language ability.
  9. Only a handful of countries do interviews. Some of the countries list it on their country page on the Fulbright website I believe. You will get an email if they want to interview you though. They just seem to ask you about your project and why you deserve the fulbright. It seems rather simple and they generally last 15 minutes.
  10. Mine is for the 31st. I wish mine was on the 30th to get it out of the way! Lol. Did the person you talked to mention anything about having to speak in Polish or any particular interview tips? I know my fulbright advisor and college dean have set up a practice Skype interview to have with them for feedback and suggestions. I'm good at being myself though.
  11. @Mossy.artistI just received my invitation for an interview over Skype via email. Make sure you check your email for yours! They arrived earlier than usual! I'm very scared now. Lol
  12. I'm trying to figure out my chances for Poland now. 15 grants are given every year and typically the average amount of applicants are 32. So if 1.5 or 2 is correct, then possibly 22.5 people were recommended. That's assuming (which I hate to do) that they did 1.5 the number of grants available. 2 times the amount seems excessive for the amount of applicants Poland gets and I would think that number is typically used for countries that get hundreds of applicants like the UK. So basically there might be 23 of us now. I'm a right in that thinking? 15 get it, possibly 3 alternates, and 5 rejections? I'm also guessing 1.5 is used because I viewed the Google doc sheet and there are people cut during the first round for Poland.
  13. Hmm. I think all the previous Poland semi finalists had a 2nd interview from what I gathered. I looked through last year's forums to find that out. It was a Skype call and they only lasted 15 minutes each. To be fair, though, I cannot find anything about a 2nd interview on the Fulbright Poland page or the links at the bottom of it.
  14. We totally could now we just need to blow our second interviews out of the water and we be researching and speaking po polsku!
  15. CONGRATS!
  16. How do I make my recommended box turn green like everyone else's? I'm in the Poland section.
  17. AHHHH I'M A SEMI FINALIST!!! I might cry. Lol
  18. I've have only been refreshing every 5 minutes since 12:00. Shhh. Lol! I'm taking myself to the gym to get my mind off of it.
  19. I interpret that as any time between mid January to January 30th. I mean, there email did say Mid-January as well. I feel like the 30th is kind of an extra long speculation date just in case they can't review all of the applications in time. Here's my thing about what reddit is saying. I've looked at the fulbright timeline from previous years and it has always said up to the 30th. But there have been many of years when the notifications go out sooner.
  20. Does this perhaps mean that only the campus representatives are getting the emails today and we have to wait another day?
  21. Okay. Now I'm anxious. I hope we get ours soon and not have to wait another day or so. Congrats though! I'm resisting the temptation to email my campus representative. Lol.
  22. I'm not sure why, but I felt like a ball of anxiety on Sunday. Today I am rather at peace and calm while at work. I feel like I should be more terrified right now. Good luck to everyone! I know we are all excited to see that Fulbright email enter our inboxes!
  23. What time of the day did they typically send notifications at and from what time zone? If anyone knows.
  24. I was browsing the Internet and I feel like I found a photo that describes our potential wait perfectly. Lol!
  25. That's super lucky that your dad knew someone there! That sounds like you got a pretty good affiliation letter! I don't try to play down my visits too much as they were just to see family. I didn't really talk about them in any of my papers, though. I only mentioned it in the experience abroad section during the application. My fulbright advisor also reassured me my family visits wouldn't impact their decision on my application in a negative way. Do you speak any Polish? I have been looking for someone to practice with recently. I was talking to my family in Polish a few months ago and they began giggling at my after I was done speaking. I asked what was so funny and they told me I talk like a 5 year old in Polish because of my grammar. Haha. So I've become very proactive in fixing my Polish grammar but goodness it is difficult. I had an easier time learning Chinese grammar rules.
