It looks like we may be hearing as soon as tomorrow. I just checked and the last two years, initial notification has been on Friday Jan 16, then Friday Jan 15, so wondering if it'll be Friday Jan 13 tomorrow... Friday the 13th!
Otherwise we may be waiting till the 20th. Or who knows, they could just send it on a random day of the week because circumstances have changed this year. It's useless trying to predict these things, and still, I try!
You can check the past years' notification dates here: https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1AlU2xDiiVhQjK3quPy6qXJuhgXYghzzG8L4YNT0unX0/edit
Good point, it looks like 7 of the 8 previous notification dates were on Fridays, usually the 3rd of 4th Friday of the month. I'm putting my money on Friday the 20th....

Aren't those statistics from last year, though (2016-2017)? I think our application cycle is 2017-2018.
No I think the 16-17 refers to the year of the application, so this cycle.

They do! When I was applying to the UK, there were 2 grants posted in September. That dropped to one grant.
That's too bad!! The odds are not in our favor....

I was looking at the updated application statistics for my program (Spain ETA) and I noticed that their projected number of spots decreased from 123 to 92. It does say that the number of acceptances is an estimate, but it still seems strange that they would estimate 30 fewer slots than the application originally stated. On the Spain program description page, however, it still says 123. Do any of you know if programs ever end out fewer grants than expected?

Hey all! I'm an applicant to the Spain ETA program this year. Does anyone know by any chance what percentage of applicants get through round 1, meaning New York, but then get rejected by the host country? I think I saw somewhere that the first cut is the most rigorous. Can anyone confirm this? Thanks!

I don't like hearing that at all! That wording makes it seem like today is unlikely
