  1. I was under the impression that schools just fund you no matter what for graduate school if you're in research. However, I won't be starting my actual project until year 2, so my question is how am I supposed to pay for the first year? Do most first years in scientific fields apply for a teaching assistantships? That seems like a lot of work for the first year. There's also research assistantships available, but then aren't you taking on a project for 9 months while ALSO doing rotations? I'm so confused.
  2. There is already a drop-down menu for me to choose bachelor of science. To clarify, it asks when I received/will receive my degree, my major, and the type of degree. Below that information is where it requests the degree description, just below where I chose Bachelor of Science. After that, it requests my GPA in my major. That is the extent of the section. I visited the help page, but it was solely for technical support such as browser issues. I typed in "degree description" into the search box and nothing relevant popped up.
  3. I am currently applying to graduate schools, and one of my applications asks me to provide a description of my degree, but it doesn't leave enough room to write even one sentence. I'm not sure what they want. This is within the section on my prior institution. It asks me when I will receive my degree and what type it is. I will graduate in the spring with a Bachelor of Science, and I am applying to cancer biology programs to do research. I thought maybe they wanted me to list skills my degree helped me attain, but it seems that there really isn't even enough room for that. I think it leaves room for less than 100 characters including spaces.
  4. I had a research internship last summer, and one of the Ph.D. students there told me that it's bad if you tell people you don't want to go into academia. I am not sure if it was about funding or what. I just wanted to know if this was true and why exactly he would say something like that. If anyone has any insight, I would greatly appreciate it!
